DHS Organized Awareness Camps on Pre-conception & Pre-natal diagnostic Techniques at Various Places

Port Blair, Sep 10: Under National Family Welfare Programme, Directorate of Health Services in association with UTHM, A & N Administration has organized five awareness camps by arranging five Nukkad Nattak (Street Play) Show on “Pre-conception & Pre-natal diagnostic Techniques” with the theme- “Save the Girl Child” organized at Manpur community hall, Chouldari Bazar, Guptapara Junction, Wilberligunj Junction and Bambooflat Jetty from 27th August to 3rd September 2013 to create awareness among general public about the sex selection being an offence under the PC&PNDT act and to change the mindset of the general public.

A large number of participants participated in the programme to witness the Nukkad Nattak (Street Play) shows and appreciated the Directorate of Health Services, A & N Administration for organizing this type of awareness programme to prevent sex selection. National Workshop on Social Media organized by AICC at New Delhi

Port Blair, Aug 25: One day National Workshop on Social Media was organized by All India Congress Committee at Jawahar Bhavan at New Delhi on 22 August, 2013 under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, Vice President, AICC and MP.

Manish Tiwari, Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Dr. ,ShashiTharoor, Union Minister of State for HRD, Ajay Maken,GS AICC and MP,Ms Priya Dutt, Secretary AICC and MP and Deepender Hooda, Coordinator, Communication Department, AICC and MP have addressed the Workshop.

The various aspects of Social media and its usage for communicating the development, ideology, policies, plans and programmes of the UPA Government through Facebook, twitter, Orkut, E-how etc was discussed.

The speakers have stated of avoiding usages of any abusive or hard language and false informations to the participants from their side but at the same time have stated that any adverse/abusive comments of other Parties or their supporters should not be avoided but answered properly by using polite words as we are the members of a very old, established and dignified political Party. Rahul Gandhi urged the participants to uphold the Congress Party’s tradition of peace and non-violence not only in our lives but also in our behaviour with others and while using the social media. He said that Congress Party is party that bonds people, a party that unites people.

It is a party that does not polarize people on the basis of caste or creed. Rahul told that , the party believes and follows the ancient values and legacies of peace, love and affection and hence our philosophy must reflect in our every comments in social media like facebook, twitter etc. He has also advised to be members of Kheedki, a site of Congress Party. The workshop was attended by HD Chattopadhyay, Secretary to PCC President KR Sharma and media person, Tamil Selvam, Media Person, AR Manickam, GS PCC, V Mohd Ali, GS, PCC and Purushottam Prasad, Zilla Parishad member alongwith others such members of PCC, IYC, NSUI etc of All over India.

Visiting Nephrologists to see patients at G B Pant hospital today

Andaman Mahila Mandal’s talk show on breast feeding held

Port Blair, Aug 14: A talk show was held by Andaman Mahila Mandal, Port Blair on 12th August at its office premises(near Fire Brigade). Dr.(Mrs.) Madhu Prem Kishen was the chief guest.

In her speech she highlighted the definition of Mother as Janani in Sanskrit and hinted at the law of Nature made by Mother Earth,she said Mother,s milk is the nectar for the baby because it protects the baby from the attack of six killer diseases. She said under normal condition within half an hour after the baby is born and thereafter every three hours the Mother should feed the baby.It should not be interspersed with bottle feeding upto six months.It has been observed that once the baby is bottle fed it demands the bottle because it is easy for the baby to use and most importantly bottle feeding leads to obesity.

She drew attention on a factual point that without Mother,s milk the baby is exposed to diarrhoea and dysentery.She also pointed out that Mother’s milk can be preserved for five to six hours and mothers are prone to breast cancer in the absence of breast feeding and it has also been found that the IQ of a breast fed child is higher than those who were deprived of Mother’s milk.

She signed off after her rendition of her own composition a poem- Shahidon ki Dharti Andaman left the audience spellbound.

Dr. Suman Yadav as a guest speaker is by profession a naturopath and an acupressure expert , she said that Mother Nature gives life and a woman gives birth to life, it is like two sides of the same coin. Mother is no different from Nature,The true nature of Mother Nature is revealed while dissecting a seed, she said being a seed therapist, Mother Nature is the best teacher.

Smti. Pritam Kumari Nanda while speaking emphasized on showing respect to Mother Nature at every step and also said it is our bounden duty to protect Mother Nature in every possible way. She drew distinction between Nature and Science stating that Science should not interfere with the laws of Mother Nature because Mother Nature is the giver of life.

Dr. Rekha Baidya , a connoisseur of Hindi Literature, concluded the talk show by illustrating the axiomatic truth in poetic language that strength is synonymous with Woman, it should not be mistaken that because woman is inherently soft, she is weak. She also said that the qualities of patience and tolerance while playing the roles of Mother, Sister, Daughter and many more in day to day life is essential for the growth of the society nay the nation. On behalf of Andaman Mahila Mandal she extended the vote of thanks to one and all who were present in the talk show.

Dr.Amol Acharya Joins Chakraborty Multi-Specialty Hospital

Port Blair, July 22: Dr.Amol Acharya has joined Chakraborty Multi-Specialty Hospital , Dollygunj as a full time consultant. In a simple function senior citizen, Mr. D.L.Das of Prem Nagar inaugurated the ENT OPD. Dr.Amol Acharya has obtained his degree from GMC Nagpur, with extensive post doctor experience of working abroad in Ministry of Health, Saudi Arabia.

Dr.Sudip Chakraborty has welcomed him in his team, which now has a strength of 09 doctors including 06 specialist and 02 super specialist doctors.

 

Two month old with Congenital Heart Disease still waiting for help :::: Time is running out for Little Angel

Port Blair, July 15: Andaman Sheekha on July 03, 2013 had reported about nearly two months old baby Akshita Majumder, who is suffering from Congenital Heart Disease, a hole in the heart since her birth but till now no help came from the side of Administration. As time is running out parents of the bay are getting more worried.

It seems that the entire Administration became too busy in departure of former LG and arrival of new Lt. Governor and perhaps forgot about extending any help to the baby. Condition is so bad that the Doctors of G B Pant Hospital has now referred Akshita to Mainland India for specialized treatment with a caution that delay may be problematic for the little angel.

But for parents of the little girl, taking the new born baby to Mainland India for specialized heart treatment seems like an impossible task as they belong to very poor family. Sadly they don’t have a BPL card and hence they can’t get treatment benefit under BPL category.

Akshita’s father P Mazumder runs a small pan shop for his leaving and has no idea where to go for help. Earlier in many occasions the Lt. Governor of A & N Islands had sanctioned financial assistance, which is the only hope for the poor parents. Hope the Raj Niwas will react soon and come to the rescue of the little girl.

DHS: Suffering from acute deficiency of Surgeons :::: Delay in Surgeries in G.B Pant Hospital leaves poor Islanders helpless

Port Blair, Jun 16: The lone referral hospital of A & N Islands, the G B Pant is presently suffering from acute deficiency of Surgeons. According the Health Services only two Surgeons are available in G B Pant at present, which is causing unwanted delay in operations of many patients.

In many cases patients, who are in need of urgent operation, are made to wait for several weeks for their surgery. There were cases in past where patients had to wait for more than one month for their operations.

Troubled patients presently have only two options left, first to go back home and wait for several weeks and second to get himself/herself operated from Private Hospitals, paying lakhs of rupees.

But for those who don’t have money for their treatment in private hospitals, especially Islanders from remote Islands, have no other option than to wait for their turn.

Here the Health Department is also helpless as the authorities have to run the show with the help of only two surgeons, which is obviously very less. Not only this, the DHS has 39 posts of Specialists vacant and hence the general public of these Islands are ultimately suffering the burnt.

When contacted the Director of Health Services, Dr. S K Paul said that the matter has already been communicated to the Ministry by the Administration and it is expected that soon these Islands will get more specialists.

“Of course there is a delay in many cases as we give top priority to emergency cases. For Emergency operations often we have to shift the dates of delay the dates of other patients, who can wait,” Dr. Paul said.

He added that in G.B Pant Hospital two kinds of surgeries are done, one Emergency Surgeries & second Elective Surgeries. Emergency surgeries are done at any time, day or night while elective surgeries are done only on two elective OT days i.e on Tuesday & Thursdays.

“In elective cases patients are investigated and pre-anesthetic check up is done and dates are given on first come first serve basis. In G B Pant Hospital there are only two OT days in a week allotted for elective cases for General Surgery Specialist and the rest days except Saturday are allotted to other specialists Ike Obst & Gynecology, ENT and Ophthalmology,” he said.

However, with all these drawbacks the G B Pant Hospital has been able to perform nearly 1397 elective surgeries since January 2012 to May 2013. Not only this, every month the G B Pant Hospital is carrying out nearly 85 elective surgeries, which is a commendable feat.

As the Health Department has shown remarkable professionalism by doing best with limited resources now the ball is on the court of Administration to pursue the matter with the concerned Ministry and get all these 39 posts of specialists filled as early as possible so that no one has to wait for weeks for their operation. Until them it seems that poor patients, waiting for their elective surgeries, will have to suffer a little more.

Chakraborty Hospital carries out difficult stone removal operation

Port Blair, June 11: In an exceptional display of surgical skill, Dr. Soumen Dey, MCH (Urology) & Dr. Vidyanand, MS (Laparoscopic Surgeon) has removed a big stone of size 5×3.5 cm from a kidney of elderly female at Chakraborty Multi Specialty Hospital.  Both the surgeons showed enormous patience to remove such a big stone without sacrificing the kidney which bears it. Meanwhile, Dr. Sudip Chakraborty has congratulated both the surgeons for such a unique feat.

No Quality Check for Local Food Stuffs Manufacturing Companies

Port Blair, Jun 4: Andaman and Nicobar Islands has substantially developed a local food stuff market and nowadays there are many local food stuff manufacturing companies and they sell the products in large numbers all over the Union Territory.

But sadly, the Health Department of our islands has failed to check on all these companies to maintain the quality of their food stuffs and to check for adulteration.

Recently it was reported that a child had become sick after consuming Ice Cream of one of the local companies i.e. ‘Mary Ice Cream’ Company. Upon further investigation it was found that the Ice Cream of the Star Ice Cream Company does not even carry Date of Manufacturing and Date of Expiry.

The Health Department should now seriously start examining the quality of the products from local companies so that people feel safe to buy and consume it and the Islanders have a healthy society and life.

World No Tobacco Day on 31st May

Port Blair, May 29: Like every year, the Directorate of Health Services will observe “World NO TOBACCO Day” on May 31, 2013 in Andaman & Nicobar Islands along with the rest of the country. The theme of this year is –“Ban Tobacco Advertising, Promotion and Sponsor Ship”.

The main function will be organized at Panchayat Samiti Conference hall, Ferrar Gunj on 31st May 2013 at 10.00 AM. Shri Mohammed Safique, Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti, Ferrargunj will be the Chief Guest on the occasion.

To highlight the importance of World No Tobacco day and to mark the day various IEC activities will be carried out by all the Health Institutions of this union territory involving PRI’s, Para Medical Personal, Anganwadi workers, Youth Clubs, ASHAs and NGOs to create awareness among general public about ill effects of tobacco consumption and its associated risk, Law dealing with prohibition of advertisement and Sponsor ship of Tobacco products. The ultimate Goal of the observance of the World No Tobacco Day is to contribute to protect present and future generations not only from these devastating health consequences, but also against the social, environmental and economic scourges of tobacco use and exposure to tobacco smoke, a communication from the Deputy Director (HE & FW), said here.
