Relocation of Ayush Hospital is a Temporary Phase

Port Blair, May 06: Commenting of issue of alleged step motherly treatment towards Ayush Hospital for setting up of Medical College, the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Mr. Anand Prakash today said that the Administration is striving to provide Ayush facilities at all possible major stations.
At least one Homoeopathic or Ayurvedic Physician has been posted at most of the major health institutions.
“The present facilities available at Ayush Hospital, Port Blair would be temporarily relocated to UHC Junglighat to accommodate the Medical College facilities for a short while. The Administration is taking care to provide all the necessary facilities presently available at Ayush Hospital at UHC Junglighat,” the CS added.

 

WHY YOU NEED SUCCESS TO SUCCEED IN LIFE?

Success is what everybody wants in every sphere of life and failure is abhorred, something that nobody wants. I would like to press for a discussion on one of the aspects of success, a part more related with my field. Let’s start with two analogy;
1)When Mike Tyson , the infamous heavy weight champion returned to boxing ring, his promoter made him to fight against a lesser fighter, whom he could defeat with his hands tied to back. But still he fought and won in 90 seconds. Subsequently he went ahead and challenged bigger challengers like Frank Bruno and regained his heavy weight title by defeating him.
2) The premier football clubs of Europe exposes their talented upcoming players initially to lesser clubs so that they can score more and taste success.
Both are examples of’ Winner effect’. Whenever somebody tastes success for the first time, it leads to tremendous changes in ones brain. It forms new neural circuits, activates older one , increased exchange of information between right and left half of brain and more importantly activates that part of brain which is involved in out of the box thinking, gut feeling, intuition and creativity. It also stimulate our frontal region of brain involved in making quick on the foot decisions. So first success acts as springboard and makes the person prepared and equipped for more success eventually. He starts to behave like a successful person and brain just augments it. He makes wise decisions, has more haunches, picks up winners among pack of losers etc. And for that, the quantum of success doesn’t matter. So a Rs 100 profit in first business will have the same winner effect as that of a Rs 1 crore profit. It also changes the attitude of that person and makes him more mentally resilient so that failures which are always just round the corner, will be handled maturedly. Failure no longer remains fatal. Rather it becomes a good teacher with loads of lessons.
Winner effect is increasingly recognized because it could be used by every body, from student preparing for entrance exams to a wannabe entrepreneur. All this is because of tremendous research being done on neuroplasticity , which suggests the enormous ability of brain to undergo transformation\change at any age. Gone are those concepts which states that brain doesn’t grow beyond first year if life. Now its principle is ‘Use it to fatten it or leave it to shrunk it’. Neuro plasticity explains the power of positive thoughts on physical structure of brain by remodeling it. In practice we see huge difference in the recovery of two patients of same sided paralysis, receiving same treatment but with different attitude towards their condition and about life in general. Not only positive people responds quickly but objectively as well their brain scan differs with appearance of alternative and new neural circuit.
First failure on the contrary could be detrimental unless you are part of a society where risk taking and entrepreneurship is encouraged. Though it could be harnessed and can act as a motivator but a overwhelming majority fails to recover unless receives strong support from family and friends. For example the first international cricket game of Saurav Ganguly in Australia was a disaster. He just disappeared, soaked up all the ridicule and criticism for three years and made a strong come back with debut century at Lords cricket ground.
Take home message; Winner effect is a fact. Anybody can harness it. So instead of diving headlong in your venture, allow yourself a taste of success by hand picking a relatively easy project at the outset.

 

5th Annual conference of IPS held at Andamans

Port Blair, May 03: The 5th annual conference of Indian Prosthodontic Society (IPS) was held at Hotel TSG Grand, Dollygunj on 1st May, where in 52 delegates of Prosthodontic Society of Tamil Nadu State branch attended. The conference was inaugurated by Dr. S.K Paul, Director of Health Service, after lighting of the traditional lamp; welcome address was given by Dr. C. J Venkatakrishnan. Dr. S. K Paul, Director of Health Service in his address to the delegates said this kind of conference is not only beneficial to the dental fraternity but it also promotes tourism. He said he is looking forward in the near future if things can be worked out so that Prosthodontist can visit G.B Pant Hospital which will immensely benefit the islanders as we don’t have a prosthodontist in Andamans. A scientific session was held on “Maxillary sinus lift augmentation” by Dr.D.Sendilnathan, Reader, Department of Prosthodontics, S.R.M Dental College, Kattankolathur, Chennai and a lecture on “fabrication of somato prosthesis on non-dental applications” by Dr.Jothikumar kamalakanan, Reader, Department of Prosthodontics, Asan Memorial College, Chennai and by Dr. B.S.Kalarashmi, Professor & HOD, Asan Memorial Dental College, Chennai. Dr.Munirathnam Naidu, former Vice-Chancellor of Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research (MAHER) were also present and he shared his valuable information to the delegates during the interactive session which was widely appreciated by one and all.
Dentists working in A & N Health department from Port Blair & and few private Dental Surgeons of Port Blair, Dr.Manoj, Dr Rachana, Dr Shanthi, Dr.Vinod, Dr.Parvez, Dr. Betty, Dr.Selvaraj, Dr.Behnaz & Dr.Dinesh attended the scientific session. The Dental Surgeons of Andamans expressed happiness as the event was held here, which gave them an opportunity to interact with specialists and exchange professional knowledge. Annual report was presented by Dr. Murugeshan, Secretary of Tamil Nadu state branch and vote of thanks by Dr.Venkat Prasad.
On the third day another scientific session on “Soft tissue management in a Prosthodonitc way” by Dr.M.Narasimhan of Tagore Dental College, Chennai. The entire event was meticulously coordinated by Dr. Dinesh, Dental Surgeon.
A patient form Middle Andaman came yesterday and had a root stump lodged in the maxillary sinus and was suffering for more than two months, he had decided to got to Chennai and on request Dr.S.Jimson Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon who had accompanied the delegates did the surgery at Dinesh Dental Clinic and successfully removed the roots, another case of full mouth oral Rehabilitation and an implant case was also seen by prosthodontist. Way back in December 2004, Indian Prosthodontic Society wanted to conduct All India conference with 1500 delegates but due to lack of infrastructure was unable to conduct said Prof. Dr. Rangarajan, Immediate past president of IPS, & HOD of Prosthodontic Department, Venkateshwara Dental College, but now things have changed, with lot of development & better hotels.

Services of Super Specialists of AIMS at GB Pant Hospital from May 12

Port Blair, May 04: Super Specialists of Amrita Institute of Medical Science (AIMS), Kochi, Kerala will rendering their services in GB Pant Hospital, Port Blair from May 12 to 17, 2014, in the following disciplines. A Giant Leap Forward for CMSH; Interventional Radiology available in Andaman

Port Blair, Apr 22: From open surgery to laparoscopic keyhole surgery, the world is moving now towards interventional radiology, and A & N Islands is not behind in embracing it.
Dr. Kranti Rathod, a Interventional Radiologist from KEM Hospital, Mumbai, has joined Chakraborty Multi Specialty Hospital (CMSH) as a visiting consultant. He successfully performed two cases of Bronchial artery embolization for chronic blood in cough- (haemoptysis) and one Splenic artery coiling for patient with Hypersplenism (spleen is enlarged and becomes a one way traffic for blood).
These procedures were done by a single injection port at groin and then advancing a micro- catheter to the respective organ’s blood supply and blocking the culprit artery with coils, glue foam or PVA particles whichever is suitable. Its requires extreme skill and guidance under a Cath lab machine called Digital Substraction Angiography (DSA) system, which is available at CMSH. So the patient can go home after 24-48 hours without a single stitch.
Of late the indication of interventional radiology has expanded to liver failure patient with ascites, females with excessive blood loss due to fibroid uterus, renal artery stenting, aortic- aneurysm coiling, cerebral angioplasty or AVM coiling for stroke patients etc. It’s USP is organ preservation and no surgical wound.

Chakraborty Multi Specialty Hospital celebrates 6th Anniversary

Port Blair, Apr 06: Chakraborty Multi Specialty Hospital celebrates its 6th Anniversary on 6th April 2014. From a very humble clinic, the hospital today has become a multispecialty hospital with a team of 10 doctors. Many unique & rare cases have been done here right from Pacemaker implantation, Urosurgery, Laparoscopic Gastrointestinal surgery to its upcoming Heart Care Centre.
The hospital has performed many free camps at far flunged areas of Port Blair, Mayabunder, Rangat & Diglipur. Infact the budget for this year’s anniversary celebration is being diverted to treatment of Mr. Parimal Das of Diglipur (a c/o Orbital Neurofibroma) to mainland, for which hospital has contributed nearly Rs. 60,000.
Hospital plans to invest further on infrastructure so that Islanders need not to go to mainland for treatment. However the only hitch is reimbursement of Government employees.
It is so ironic that when a patient receives treatment at mainland, his or her bills are reimbursed but not when he receives same treatment at a hospital which is near to his or her home.
Reimbursement of treatment received here will go a long way in helping the islanders as well as encouraging young doctors like Dr. Chakraborty to come back to their hometown and offer their services. The way hotel industry is encouraged by the administration, in the same manner it’s high time now that private hospitals should be encouraged so that islanders can pick & choose hospital according to their liking and faith.

TIPS TO MAKE YOUR MARATHON RELATIVELY EASY

In continuation with my previous three articles on marathon, this one is the last of the series. It feels great to see increasing number of joggers at Marina Park early in the morning. It is like marathon is in the air.

If you live in a place for long enough, you become the place. It happened with me. Being a third generation son of these islands, I am witnessing a sea change in the attitude of Islander’s especially inadequate physical activity and rise in cardio vascular diseases that include diabetes. Therefore, these articles are aimed for a change in habits, however small it might appear. No amount of kudos will be enough for Andaman chamber of commerce for organizing a event which has the potential of transforming health and saving the loss of man days because of ill health.

So here follows the ten points;
1) Have a pacer. Pacer is a friend or known person who runs for some distance during various stages of race. They are invaluable source of motivation and keep you from quitting.
2) Keep as many relatives and friends at as many points of marathon route with juices, coconut water etc so that you are well motivated and encouraged. Moreover, in this process invariably you will some inspire some of your friends to run the race next time.
3) Try to keep your mouth moist by sucking some gum or toffee. It fools the brain that you are well hydrated and postpones tiredness to some extent.
4) Keep your eyes fixed to the ground beneath and try to run on a straight line. You will have fewer distractions and won’t know how many people has crossed you, thus saving your ego from getting hurt.
5) Pain is inevitable except for seasoned runners. So don’t be surprised and take it on your stride.
6) Brisk walking is more strenuous than slow jogging. It hurts tendon achillies and heel of foot.
7) Conserve energy, probably the most important thing by less talking, going slow and at sustained manageable pace and avoiding mouth breathing as much as possible.
8) Match your breath with the sound of your footsteps. Develop a rhythm and concentrate on it. In no time, you will see the finishing line.
9) Read motivating books on long distance running like ultra marathon man by Dean Karnazes , runners world guide , Lure of long distance etc.
10) Finally some powerful quotes to keep your mind from going astray;
a) Pain is temporary and regrets forever.
b) What counts in a battle is what you do when the pain sets in.
c) Success seems largely a matter of hanging on when others have let it go.
d) That which does not kill you, will make you stronger.
e) He, who suffers, remembers.
f) If you are going through hell, you rather keep going. There is not much scenery to look around.
g) Second half of marathon separates boys from men and girls from women.

So here is wishing all the marathoners good luck. A reward of higher self-esteem, self-respect and mind expansion is waiting for you. Go and earn it.

Pharmacy shops Government facilities to remain open 24 X 7

Port Blair, Nov 12: The Administration has been receiving requests that a Pharmacy should be kept open 24×7. Despite the best efforts of the Administration, no private shop has come forward to run this. It is, however, brought to the notice of the general public that as part of its commitment towards providing health care services, all the Government facilities such as GB Pant Hospital, the District Hospitals, the CHCs and also PHCs are open 24×7 to provide emergency services and medicines.
