Port Blair, September 16: A 15-year-old girl committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her room in Kamraj Nagar area.
The deceased, a Class Xth student, was alone at her home last evening when she reportedly hanged herself with a scarf from the ceiling of the room.
According to the villagers, the girl was found dead at around 3:30 pm inside her room. The victim was immediately rushed to the hospital where she was declared brought dead. No suicide note was recovered.
The postmortem of the dead body was conducted today at G B Pant Hospital. It is learnt.
LG condoles death of two persons at Billiground Lt. Governor directs Police Department for proper investigation into the matter
Port Blair, Sep 16: It was reported that two persons namely Shri Kishen Kanta Bepari, aged 47 yrs, R/o Pinakinagar and Shri Ananda Sarkar aged 48 yrs, R/o Panchawati, died after consuming illicit/spurious liquor at Billiground.
A preliminary investigation done by the Police indicates that both the persons died due to consumption of illicit/spurious liquor.
The Lt Governor, Lt Gen A K Singh (Retd), has condoled the death of the two persons and expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
He has directed the Police Department to expedite the investigation so as to find out the cause of death and initiate appropriate action against the culprits. He has also directed the District Administration to ensure that no illicit/spurious liquor is sold in the District. Gratuitous relief will be given as per rules.
Meanwhile, it has been learnt that two more persons have been admitted by PHC Billyground with similar symptoms today. Both of them had consumed liquor this morning. They are under special care at PHC Billyground.
Meanwhile, the DC and SP of N & M Andaman visited both the patients, Mr. Gour Goldy, a resident of Badam Nallah and Mr. Major this morning.
One dies after consuming mysterious cocktail at Billyground

Billyground, Sept 15: One person died while another has been admitted in Billyground Hospital after they consumed some kind of mysterious cocktail, sitting inside a village hotel.
According to reports Kishen Bepari, 48 years and Mr. Ananda Sarkar 50 years, had consumed some kind of cocktail this morning after which both of them fell seriously ill.
After consuming liquor this morning while Mr. Kishen Bepari returned to his home at Pinakinagar, Middle Andaman Mr. Ananda Sarkar returned to his home at Panchawati. Soon both of them fell sick and were rushed to hospital.
According to details Mr. Kishen Bepari died after reaching hospital while the condition of Mr. Ananda Sarkar is said to be critical.
It is still not clear what kind of cocktail both had consumed this morning. While villagers are alleging that they have consumed country liquor, the police department says that they have recovered two 180 ml of IMFL bottles from the location, which was pointed out by Mr. Ananda Sarkar during preliminary inquiry.
But police sources also added that the bottles smelled ‘different’.
The samples are being sent for examination to ascertain what kind of cocktail they had consumed. Meanwhile, the post mortem of Late Ananda Sarkar was conducted this evening and samples have been sent for examination.
There are many who suspect that the victim might have mixed some kind of chemical from the Billyground’s government school, in which they both were working as peon.
However, investigations are also on to find out whether they got liquor, country or IMFL, from party workers.
Municipal & Panchayat Elections Preparation of Electronic Voting Machines to be done on Sept.16 & 17
Port Blair, Sept 15: The preparation of electronic voting machines will be done on 16th & 17th September at JNRM Auditorium from 10.00 am. All contesting candidates & representatives of Political Parties are requested to attend the same.
The concerned authorities of PBMC & APWD have been directed to submit certification assuring basic minimum facilities at all polling station under their jurisdiction by 16th September.
The work of distribution of postal ballots is continuing by all Returning Officers to the polling personnel of their respective constituencies. As on date total 831 (Eight Hundred Thirty one) votes have been casted through postal ballots for PBMC and Total 1450 (One Thousand Four Hundred Fifty) for various Panchayat posts. It has been decided to issue and collect postal ballots till 17/09/2015 by the Returning Officers. All Returning Officers are instructed to continue issuing postal ballots accordingly and get the additional postal ballots printed if it is required.
The Office of the Director, Panchayat & Municipal Elections is also focusing on Voters awareness through various activities so that voting percentage could be increased and voters be made aware to cast their vote as per their best decision without any fear or favour. Street Plays (Nukkad Nataks) are especially getting overwhelming response from the general public, which are being performed at various locations in Port Blair & Ferrargunj Tehsils.
The polling locations are also made available in the SMS enabler system for the voters along with their name, polling station details and voters serial number etc. by typing his/her 10 character EPIC No. e.g. “PRI1222868” and sending SMS to 9434289934.
It was informed that all activities of political parties related to canvassing are permitted up to 18th September 2015 by 4.00 pm only i.e., 48 hours before the closing of the poll. The voter’s slip without symbol will be allowed in the polling station and the issuance of the slip to assist voters may be done from out of 100 meters from the polling station. Only one table shall be allowed for the same.
The teams for enforcing model code of conduct have been instructed to keep close watch on the illicit sale of liquor. Private bar owners and ANIIDCO liquor outlets are once again directed to strictly adhere the existing rules otherwise their license shall be liable to be cancelled.
The teams constituted for preventing the violation of Model Code of Conduct have been keeping constant vigil. Total 2585 (Two Thousand Five Hundred Eighty Five) & 218 (Two Hundred Eighteen) number of defacements have been removed from Public & Private property in South Andaman District & North Andaman District respectively. The general public and others are appealed to report any case of violation of Model Code of Conduct to Election Cell on 03192-238881 and 03192-240127.
Old Man dies of Electric Shock at Tiranga Park

Port Blair, Sept 15: A 64 years old man namely K Bhaskar Rao, S/o K Machian Rao died of electric shock today at Tiranga Park.
According to reports, a public meeting of Telugu Desam Party was going on at the Tiranga Park but as it started to rain at around 06:00pm, many ran for nearby shelter.
Inside the Tiranga Park there was temporary shed constructed yesterday to keep all electrical items and when the man reportedly touched one of the rods of the shed he suffered electrocution.
However the man before collapsing warned others to stay away from the place and saved other people from electrocution.
Sources said that the accident took place due to some loose wiring done by the private electrician.
The deceased used to live alone in these Islands and his family is in West Godavari area of AP.
The local TDP unit with the help of TDP unit of West Godavari located the son of the deceased and as per the wish of Late K Bhasker’s son, his body will be sent to Andhra by flight. The TDP party has also assured an amount of Rs. 3 lakhs from Prime Minister’s relief fund.
Colossal trees transmit fear in Baratang residential areas

Port Blair, Sept 14: With monsoon at its peak, residents of Baratang in Middle Andaman are living under perpetual fear of disaster striking them in the form of huge trees crashing on their homes during turbulent weather.
Routine crashing incidents of colossal trees has now stirred demand of immediate felling of the tree standing dangerously in residential areas of Baratang to prevent loss of life and property in the region.
Last Friday, a massive tree collapsed into a shop at Oral Katcha area during squally winds. While no one was injured, the shop was damaged extensively in the accident.
“These tall trees in residential areas are posing serious threat to the residents of Baratang as there are every possible chances of these trees falling down over the houses during rainy and cyclonic weather.
Some of the trees in this area were pruned about two years ago, but there are number of others which are threatening us.
The Forest Department should not wait for a disaster to happen and should immediately embark on steps to immediately cut down these dangerous trees to prevent loss of lives and property during mishaps,” said a resident of Oral Katcha.
Transport Department resumes issue of permit to commercial vehicles of Havelock

Port Blair, Sept 14: In view of the hardships being faced by tourism service providers and general public of Havelock, the Department of Transport, UT Administration has resumed issuance of permits for public vehicles recently.
Administration had prohibited issue of permits to tourist vehicles and other public vehicles for about eight months owing to burgeoning vehicular population in the small but tourist hotspot, Havelock Island.
According to reports, increasing population of vehicles, irresponsible parking and related issues raised by people of Havelock forced the Lt. Governor to issue a bar on issue of permit to commercial vehicles. Thronged by thousands of tourists on a daily basis, Havelock is a small island with narrow road stretches and the increasing number of vehicles had become a cause of concern for the people of the area. Recently, stakeholders of the tourism industry of Havelock highlighted various problems being faced due to the prohibition, the Transport Department resumed the issue of permit to commercial vehicles.
Speaking to Andaman Sheekha, the Secretary-cum-Director, Transport, Mr JB Singh said that pending applications for issue of permit for commercial vehicles of Havelock are currently being processed.
Stringent action against the Government Servants involved in Political Activities
Port Blair, September 14: The second round of training of Presiding Officers/Polling Personnel conducted successfully on 13th September & 14th September 2015 at DBRAIT. The arrangements for counting have been finalized. It has been decided to deploy a Senior Central Government Official as an Observer at each counting center.
Stringent action is being initiated against the Government Servants found to be involved in political activities. Ten (10) Show Cause Notices have already been issued to the Government Servants for their alleged involvement in such activities. The confidential cell constituted for the purpose has been directed to keep close watch on such activities and collect proper evidences so that appropriate action can be taken against the violators. All the Government Servants are once again cautioned to restrain from such activities.

The night patrolling by the Senior Officers of the District Administration is being conducted regularly and has been yielding good results. A few cases of violation of Modal Code of Conduct have been noticed and immediate action has been taken against the violators. A few bars have also been found committing some irregularities and appropriate action being taken against them. All candidates are once again appealed to strictly adhere to Modal Code of Conduct. All bars and liquor shops are directed to strictly follow the rules and maintain proper records, otherwise their license may be cancelled.

HAVELOCK VIOLENCE: THE INSIDE STORY Amit Das died because of Head Injuries: Reports

Havelock, Sept 13: Tourists Hub Havelock Island, which witnessed massive violent protest on Friday night, is now under total control but the anger is still brewing inside.
Andaman Sheekha after detailed inquiry has learnt that during the post mortem it was found that the victim Mr. Amit Das had actually died because of internal head injuries.
According to highly placed sources Amit Das sustained the internal head injuries while he was being brought to police station of Havelock from PHC Havelock.
According to reports, on Thursday night police picked up Amit Das following reports that Amit Das was creating nuisance at Havelock market under the influence of liquor. Following this a police team consisting of head constable Mr. MM Naidu, one constable and another constable driver picked up Amit Das from Bazaar and he was directly taken to PHC Havelock from where it was confirmed by a Doctor that Amit Das was under the influence of liquor.
As per details while bringing Mr Amit Das to police station Havelock, on the way, near Govind Nagar petrol bunk of Mr. Nani Gopal Das @ Guru, Amit Das reportedly tried to escape from the PCR van (at 30 40 KM/ Hour speed) by jumping out of the police vehicle and while trying to do so Mr Amit Das sustained head injuries.
The two policemen present at the spot did not find any major injuries on the body of Amit Das and hence they decided by their own to take him to police station instead of hospital.
At PS Havelock the condition of Amit Das started to deteriorate but by that time Amit Das was handed over to the family members.
Next day early morning at 4.00 am Amit Das developed serious complications and when he was taken to hospital he was declared brought dead.
Meanwhile, as per sources, the police Head Constable and other two police jawans did not disclose the matter of Mr. Amit Das getting injuries, to the SHO of the DySP of Havelock.
Had the police jawan reported about the incident to seniors this entire matter of violence could have been averted and Mr. Amit Das could have been given proper medical attention, it is believed.
Sources say that only after the post mortem, when doctors found internal head injuries inside the skull of Amit Das and police jawans accepted that such incident had happened.
Following this Mr. MM Naidu, one constable and the constable driver were placed under suspension and a criminal case under IPC 302 (homicide) was registered against the officials present on duty.
Meanwhile the case has been handed over to CID and the CID team has already begun the investigation into this matter and hopefully the entire truth will come out very soon.
The case may not be as simple as it looks, there could be other angles too. The CID team is investigating into this matter and Andaman Sheekha is also keeping a close eye in this case to see whether there is a cover up or an effort to mislead the investigation. Protestors pelted stones, Petrol Bombs and Empty bottles 19 Policemen, including SP (SA) injured in Havelock Violence; Case Goes to CID

Havelock, Sept 13: The enquiry regarding death of Havelock youth Amit Das on friday early morning, which has triggered a massive protest in Havelock Island has now been handed over to Crime Investigation Department (CID)
According to sources the CID unit has already started investigation into this matter and after recording statements of witnesses, public and relatives the CID unit will prepare a complete report.
Meanwhile it has been learnt that during the Havelock protest as many as 19 policemen including the SP of South Andaman, Mr Sibesh Singh and Dy.S.P Havelock Mr. B Saigal had sustained injuries. Some villagers also sustained injuries, when police department got orders of Lathi Charge.
It has been learnt that during the protest a lot of police vehicles were damaged by the protesters not only this protesters used petrol bombs, empty bottles and pelted stones on police.
Havelock Island is always known for such violent protests on serious issues earlier fire station incharge was thrashed by a mob after a fire incident, which resulted in 30 such attackers by CCS team.
Many believe that forthcoming election was also one of the main reason behind such protest as it is learnt that a few political leaders had played a major role in instigating the family members for such protest.
The issue started escalating since morning 8.30 am but the crowd was kept under control by local police team but only after post mortem examination at night and after it was learnt by the public that Amit Das died due to Head Injuries, the matter went out of control.
