Hut Bay, Oct 26: A Police Constable has been arrested by Police on Molestation charges. According to reports the police constable had offered ride to a 26 years old unmarried lady and took her to a lonely place but when some forest workers noticed the constable, he ran away from the spot.
Later father of the lady registered a complaint at PS Hut Bay. The lady is said to be mentally disturbed.
The arrested police jawan was sent to Port Blair by MV Dering vessel today and he would be produced to court tomorrow. Further details are awaited.
New born baby dumped at Manpur by Cop Mother

Port Blair, October 25: A newborn male child was listed in extremely critical condition at G B Pant Hospital on Saturday after her mother allegedly dumped her in an isolated place, after tying a cloth around her mouth.
According to reports, Ogra Braj Police Station received a complaint from a resident of Manpur about the dumped newborn baby, upon which immediately the police team of PS Ogra Braj left for Manpur and found an un-identified male child, the police later handed over the child to an Non-Government Organisation, Childline, who immediately admitted the baby to Primary Health Center, Tushnabad.
As the condition of the child was very critical PHC, Tushnabad referred the child to Govind Ballabh Pant hospital, Port Blair for further treatment. It is learnt that the child is in Ventilator at G B Pant Hospital. As per sources, the police has already identified the mother of the child.
As per reports, the mother of the child by profession is an unmarried lady police constable at Andaman & Nicobar Traffic Unit.
As per the sources, to give birth, the mother had taken shelter in one of her colleague’s house, where after giving birth to a healthy baby on Saturday, the baby was dumped.
Meanwhile a case has been registered in this regard but for now the mother has been taken to the hospital to be with the baby.
Chaos at Baratang after vehicle ferries develop snags

Port Blair, Oct 25: Baratang region in Middle Andaman is witnessing chaos after two vehicle ferries MFV Philobhabi and Austin-3 developed technical snags on Sunday.
The vehicle ferries crawled at a slow speed to ferry passengers to either sides, Nilambur and Middle Strait, as commuters in hundreds remained stranded for hours to wait for their turn.
According to reports, it takes about 15-20 minutes to reach Middle Strait from Nilambur Jetty on the vehicle ferries. However, the vessels, with technical glitches, took about an hour to transport passengers.
Hundreds of people visited Diglipur in North Andaman to witness the Durga Puja celebration and during their return, serpentine queues of vehicles were witnessed at the Nilambur Jetty.
But due to the snag in the vehicle ferries, commuters had to struggle to reach Middle Strait in their return journey. Even persistent demands from the residents of Baratang to provide two large vehicle ferries in the Nilambur-Middle Strait sector has failed to attract the attention of the Shipping Department.
Speaking to Channel One News and Andaman Sheekha, the Zilla Parishad member of Baratang, Mr Alagar Swamy said that the Shipping Department has been requested a number of times to provide large vehicle ferries at Baratang to prevent huge queues at the jetties.
However, the Shipping Department has till date failed to address the issue, he said urging the intervention of the top brass of the administration for the benefit of commuters.

Car Nicobar, Oct 25: The suspense over the reason behind the suicide, committed by the SHO of Car Nicobar Island, Mr. Abdul Gafoor is becoming deeper and deeper.
To ascertain the reasons behind this extreme step that too by a SHO ranked police officer, the DIGP of Andaman and Nicobar Police himself reached Car Nicobar Island and today he spoke to all police jawans of PS Car Nicobar to understand the circumstances. The SP of Car Nicobar was present with the DIGP, it is learnt.
Meanwhile, the SP CID and SP CSS are also working in their own level to find out the truth. Call details of late Abdul Gafoor is also being obtained.
As per details late Abdul Gafoor was transferred to Traffic Unit of Port Blair and on Monday he was supposed to join duty and such extreme step just a few days before his joining date also raises many questions.
Police Department is presently investigating in both professional and personal angels to know the complete truth behind this suicide.
On 22nd October Sub Inspector Abdul Gafoor had committed suicide inside the bathroom of his government quarter by hanging himself.
Tragic Deaths; Siblings Drown In Village Well at Manglutan

Port Blair, Oct 18: A two and half year old boy and his one and half year old brother drowned in the well when they were playing in their village, Manglutan, South Andaman this morning.
The victims were identified as Christopher Paul (2.5 years) and Stalin (1.5 years). Their father is a regular Mazdoor in Forest Department.
According to reports in the morning, they were playing around their house and when they could not be located for a long time people started looking for the kids. Finally when their slippers were located inside an open well, people jumped inside the well and recovered the bodies.
The father of the kids had come to Port Blair for offering prayers while the mother was reported cooking food when the incident took place.
On humanitarian ground the bodies of the babies were not sent for post mortem. The bodies will be taken to Car Nicobar tomorrow for cremation.
The tragic incident came as a big shock for the people of the region. The DC, South Andaman and Dy.S.P of the area visited the site.
Elaborate traffic arrangements made for Durga Puja celebration

Port Blair, Oct 18: The Traffic Unit of the Andaman and Nicobar Police has made elaborate arrangements to prevent traffic chaos during the Durga Puja celebrations this year. With single-lane roads in the city and burgeoning vehicular population, massive traffic jams become the order of the day during the Durga Puja celebration.
The situation worsens to an extent that many people even desist to venture out of their homes during the puja. However, the Traffic Unit has made detailed arrangements this year for the benefit of the citizens.
Speaking to Channel One News recently, the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Traffic said that Durga Puja is celebrated in about 18 Pandals in the city and to prevent traffic disorder during the celebration a meeting of police officers and members of Puja Organizing Committees was held under the chairmanship of the Superintendent of Police recently.
“The Puja Committees have been requested to deploy volunteers at the Puja Pandals to assist traffic cops to regulate traffic movement. Besides arrangements have also been made to facilitate parking of vehicles so avoid any convenience to people,” The Traffic Dy.SP added.
Pahargaon Police arrests two in Dollygunj Burglary Case

Port Blair, October 18: A theft case was reported from a house of Loknath Colony, Dollygunj on Friday. As per reports some Jwelleries & e cash were stolen from the house.
Following the complaint under the overall supervision of DySP South Andaman and SHO Pahargaon, the Burglary Squad of PS Pahargaon headed by SI Ilango started the investigation and within 6 hours the case was worked out. Two habitual burglars, Mohd Iqbal and Rahmat Hussain, were caught by the team.
As per reports, both the thieves were arrested by the police on Friday and were produced in the court yesterday.
Deadly Bus accident at Brookshabad, cop dies, 11 more injured

Port Blair, Oct 16: In a deadly road accident at Brookshabad area of Port Blair city this afternoon, as many as 11 people suffered serious injuries, while a cop died.
According to report at around 3.15 pm a passenger Bus coming downhill from Brookshabad area towards Corbyn’s Cove, when suddenly due to brake fail the driver of the bus lost control over the bus.
The speeding bus on its way hit a Head Constable, who was about to enter his car. The Bus later came to a halt after hitting fence of a house but before that it crushed the car and the Head Constable, who was declared brought dead at the G B Pant Hospital.
11 other passengers including the conductor and children inside the bus suffered serious injuries and were rushed to G B Pant hospital immediately.
The driver of the bus is reportedly safe bus police has registered a case in this regard.
“Police is carrying out investigation in this regard,” Dy.S.P, M Nausad told reporters.
LG condoles death of Head Constable, wishes speedy recovery of injured persons
Port Blair, October 16: The Lt Governor, Lt Gen A K Singh (Retd), has expressed his deep shock and condolence on the death of Shri Suresh Kumar, Head Constable, CID, A& N Police who died in a road accident at Kamrajnagar, Brookshabad today.
The driver of a private bus carrying passengers lost control over the bus resulting in the road accident at Brookshabad in which one person died and eleven passengers got injured. He has also wished for speedy recovery of the injured persons, who are under treatment at G. B. Pant Hospital.
The Lt Governor has also conveyed his deep condolences to the members of the bereaved family.
Anti Corruption arrests Assistant Engineer, PRI, Mayabunder in graft case

Mayabunder, Oct 15: Today an anti-corruption team caught the Assistant Engineer of PRI, Mayabunder, Mr. Appa Rao red handed while reportedly, accepting a bribe amount of Rs. 10,000.
As per reports since last three months the Anti-Corruption team was keeping an eye on him. As per sources, for an work order of Rs. 3 lakh the Assistant Engineer had demanded Rs. 15.000 from one contractor and while accepting Rs. 10,000 he was trapped by Anti-Corruption team.
