Port Blair, Mar 03: To mark the International Women’s Day on 8th March 2014, Andaman People Theatre Association (APTA) by the support of Department of Arts & Culture, Netaji Stadium, Port Blair is going to organize a theatre workshop only for lady theater artist of Andaman & Nicobar Islands at Andaman Club opposite Netaji Stadium, Port Blair from 2.00 p.m to 6.00 p.m. Naresh Chander Lal (NSD graduate of these Islands) will conduct the workshop.
Interested candidates can contact Mr. Lal, over phone number 9434284600, for participation on any working day from 5.00 p.m to 7.00 p.m at Andaman club or may directly attend the theatre workshop on 8th March 2014 (Saturday) at 2.00 PM at Andaman Club.
Screening of film ‘Bhag Milkha Bhag’ in city
Port Blair, November 19: The Directorate of Information and Publicity, A&N Administration will be arranging the screening of popular feature film “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag” on 23rd November 2013 at DBRAIT auditorium, Pahargaon and on 24th November 2013 in the PBMC auditorium as evening shows (From 5.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m). This feature film is based on the real life of the great sportsperson of India and Padmashri awardee, Milkha Singh. The screening of the film will further inspire the young and budding sports talents of these islands.
These shows have been organized free of cost for the general public as well as students. The Education department has been requested to motivate and encourage the students to witness the movie in large numbers.
Milkha Singh the former Indian track and field sprinter is also known as The Flying Sikh. Milkha Singh as of 2013 is the only Indian male athlete to win an individual athletics gold medal at a Commonwealth Games. Milkha Singh (born 1935) was introduced to the sport while serving in the Indian Army. He represented India in the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome and the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. He was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian honour, in recognition of his sporting achievements.
Lal to attend General Council Meeting of Sangeet Natak Academy
Port Blair, Nov 18: The General council Meeting of Sangeet Natak Academy, New Delhi will be held on 21st Nov 2013 at Rabindra Bhavan, New Delhi. Mr. Naresh Chander Lal, representative of Andaman and Nicobar Islands is proceeding to Delhi on 20th Nov 2013 to attend the meeting. Mr. Naresh Chander Lal has asked for any suggestions related to performing arts activities by the registered cultural organizations of the Islands on or before his leaving date for raising the same in the meeting.
Lal’s Short Play makes big impact on audience
Port Blair, Oct 31: Andaman People Theatre Association (APTA) today presented very impressive, emotional and realistic short Play “Dekho Na Ho Gaya Sabeera” at Manpur Community hall.
The play was based on the problems faced by senior citizens, who face problems to come to the banks to receive their monthly pension and how the co-operative bank has come forward and introduced co-operative card system to give pension to these elderly people, at their doorsteps.
The touchy play, presented by APTA was so impressive that tears rolled down the chicks of many spectators. The play was written and directed by Mr. Naresh Chander Lal, renowned theatre and film director of A & N Islands.
Naresh Chander Lal pledges to bring back lost glory of Andaman Theatre

Port Blair, Oct 21: With an aim to bring back lost glory of Theatre in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, renowned film and theatre Director of these Islands, Mr. Naresh Chander Lal is all set to stage two Plays “Ashad Key Ek Din” written by Mohan Rakesh and “Yayati” written by Girish Karnad. The Plays will be staged soon under the banner of Andaman People Theatre Association (APTA) and will be directed by Naresh Chander Lal.
In this regard the Mahurat Ceremony of the famous play Ashad Key Ek Din was organized at APTA office premises, Port Blair. Mr. Sanjib Kumar Roy, Editor of Andaman Sheekha and a local artist was the Chief Guest of the Mahurat Ceremony.
Addressing the gathering Mr. Naresh Chander Lal said that he will put all efforts to bring back the lost glory of Theatre in Andaman and to create good taste for Theatre in these Islands.
“I want to organize plays in these Islands in war footing as it was done in past,” Lal said.
He also introduced senior, seasoned as well as new artists of APTA, who are Mr. Srinath Vashisht, Mr. Ravindra Rao, Mr. Madan Kumar Gupta, Ms. Samitha Veda Acharya, Mr. Farukh Alam, Miss Priyanka Talukdar, Mr. T Raja, Mr. N C Banerjee, Mr. Krishna Kumar Bishwendra and Mrs. Ruksana.
Addressing the gathering Mr. Sanjib Kumar Roy, the Chief Guest congratulated Mr. Naresh Chander Lal for this welcome step and wished the entire team best of luck. He also urged Mr. Lal to make use of technological advancements for better impact and to record these plays for future reference of budding artists as well as Islanders.

Port Blair, Oct 18: Naresh Chander Lal has been invited by the centre for experiencing socio-culture interaction New Delhi and Gandhi Memorial Museum Madurai to attend the “MAJA KOENE AWARDS FUNCTION 2013” to be held at Gandhi Memorial Museum Madurai on 6th Nov 2013 at 5.30 p.m.
Naresh Chander Lal is the recipient of Maja Koene Award this year 2013 for his feature film Gandhi The Mahatma,by Centre for experiencing socio-culture interaction ( CESCI ) an international organization based in Switzerland and India.
Lal is leaving to Madurai on 5th November to attend the function and he will also deliver lecture on to the unity diversity of his native place Andaman & Nicobar Islands in context to his feature film Gandhi The Mahatma. Naresh Chander Lal has already been decorated with Mahatma Gandhi Seva Medal by the Gandhi Global Family New Delhi last year for this film.
High dignitaries from Switzerland,Canada and India who are working for the Gandhi Peace globally are also attending the function at Madurai.
Mythological dance drama enthralls audience
Port Blair, October 8: A mythological dance drama in Hindi titled ‘Jai Maa Addishakti’, was staged at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Auditorium by ‘Kasheesh’, a social-cultural forum in collaboration with Directorate of Art & Culture and Jhummurr Nrityangan here yesterday. The one-hour long traditional mythological drama, beautifully choreographed explained how Mother Durga killed the demon Mahishasur, signifying the triumph of good over evil.
In his brief address on the occasion, the Lt Governor complimented ‘Kasheesh’ and the Department of Art & Culture for presenting the mythological drama in a very interesting manner, portraying various facets of Maa Durga. “Our country is a land of rich cultural heritage, yet it is ironical that on the one hand, we worship women ‘shakti’ and at the same time commit atrocities against them. It is, therefore, imperative that we should respect our women”, he observed.
The function concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by the President of Kasheesh, Shri S. Balasubramaniam.
Positive Feedbacks pour in for showing movies at Ambedkar Auditorium

Port Blair, Sep 06: The much criticized move by PBMC to screen films in B.R Ambedkar Auditorium is seems to be yielding really good results. Every weekend the auditorium is seen bustling with residents from various places, spread over South Andaman coming there to watch movies in Big Screens.
PBMC has recently started showing movies in B R Ambedkar Auditorium every weekend, which was criticized by a section of political parties but now seeing the feedbacks given the general public, the move of PBMC seems to be wise and people are really enjoying their weekends.
The Feedback register of the council for the movie screening is presently flooding with positive comments and suggestions to improve the service and almost no comment seems to be going against the screening of movies in the auditorium.
The deserted auditorium is now seen filled with people on weekends, waiting in queues to get in and watch movies, which they have probably already watched, this curiosity of people clearly shows the need of the town for entertainment centers for the positive growth and development of the residents of these Islands.
Meanwhile, it has been learnt from reliable sources that the PBMC has already got some really new and good movies for coming weekends and it be believed that the crowd will surely go out of control this time.
Dr. R Devdas on AIR Port Blair on Teachers’ Day

Famous Urdu Philosopher Poet, Azeezuddin Azeez Belgaumi in Andaman
Port Blair, Aug 25: Famous Urdu Philosopher Poet, Urdu Litterateur, Writer, Author, Columnist, Singer, Publisher, former Banker, Former Principal and Interviewer on the penal of Urdu Section Bangalore Doordarshan Mr Azeezuddin Azeez Belgaumi is on his visit to the Islands these days and a Mushaira/Kavi Sammelan in his honor, has been organized jointly by The Department of Art and Culture, Andaman Administration and Woman’s Organization ISMAT in Port Blair.
Mr. Azeez Belgaumi hails from Belgaum, a town in Karnataka State and settled in Bangalore. He begun his carrier as Teacher and retired from State Bank of India and also an Ex-Principal. He is a Science graduate and did his MA and MPhil.
He is the first Karnataka Poet who has the privilege to have a website in his name with his ID as http://www.azeezbelgaumi.com. He has fan following globally like Japan, Middle East, Uk and US. His poetry and articles are being published in Indian Urdu Press and Urdu Press across the world. An exclusive Category of his writings is readily available on a famous Japanese Urdu site urdunetjpn.com and as many as 110 articles are available on line.
Besides his performances in various Mushairas/Kavi Sammelans across the country, he had an opportunity to present his poetry to the non Urdu Audience of Kerala in various occasions, also his CDs and Cassettes were produced by Malayalam organizations. He himself released his own cassettes of poetry in his own melodious voice. He also lent his voice in another CD to the poems of Allama Iqbal with Malayalam translation released in Kerala.
He also presented his papers in International conferences like the one held in New Delhi under the caption DIALOGUE BETWEEN ORIENTAL RELITIONS in early 2010. He has published his three Books including a Prose book namely “Zanjeer-e-Dast-o-Paa” and two Poetry Books “Harf-o-Saut” and “Sukun ke lamhouN ki Tazagi”. Recently, he has completed Autobiography of Padma Bhushan Late Moulana Abdul Kareem Parekh of Nagpur and is in the Press.
During the last 40 years, he wrote prefaces and forewords for and released books of famous Urdu Poets in India and abroad, participated, announced and presided over many All India Mushairs/Kavi Sammelans held across the country, including exclusive program ike “Sham-e-Azeez”, “Azeez Nights”in Maharashtra and elsewhere. He also produced CD for Karnataka Urdu Academy.
As journalist in print media, he rendered his services for Daily Johar-e-Guftar Belgaum (now Johar-e-Sahafat), Arrasheed Monthly Bangalore and Monthly Sada-e-Fitrat Belgaumi.
He is being performing since 1972 on All India Radio and is on the Penal of Interviewers in Urdu Section of Doordarshan Bangalore and interviewed more than 50 personalities belonging to various walks of life. His own interview also had telecast on Doordarshan. He also appeared on ETV at number of occasions.
As a publisher he has been publishing the books of various Urdu Writers and Poets of Karnataka, Andhra Pardesh and Tamil Nadu under Printech Publishing House.
