Port Blair, Jan 13: The ongoing Island Tourism Festival (ITF) 2012 was inaugurated on 05 Jan 12 at ITF Ground and will continue till 15 Jan 12. Andaman and Nicobar Command has set up a stall at the ITF ground aimed at motivating the youth of the Islands to join Indian Armed Forces and also to increase awareness amongst them about them. Various small arms (weapons) used by the Armed Forces are on display at the stall. The closing ceremony of the ITF 2012 will be held on 15 Jan 12. As part of the closing ceremony, the Indian Naval and Coast Guard ships will be anchored off Marina Park for illumination. Ships are illuminated using a series of bulbs on special occasions. In the evening hours, the ships will fire Red, Yellow and Green flares followed by illumination.
Cultural Programme by Army at ITF Ground
Port Blair, Jan 13: With an aim to reach out to the general public of the Islands and to commemorate the 64th Army Day Celebrations, the Army organized impressive Band Concerts at ITF ground every alternate day from 05 Jan to 13 Jan. The Musical extravaganza comprised of performances by the Pipe & Drums Bands of 18 KUMAON & 22 PUNJAB. The event attracted visitors in large numbers including Ex- Servicemen from all over the Emerald Islands who enjoyed the concert with nostalgic feelings. The mega event, which was open to general public, enthralled serving/retired defence personnel and Islanders. On 11 Jan 11, the Army Personnel also presented a cultural programme ‘Military Pageantry & Tattoos’, which was an entertaining cocktail of Nicobari Dance, Kumaoni Dance and the famous Punjabi Bhangra. The participants, all men in olive green, performed at par with professional dancers. The versatile performance of the band and the cultural programme won the hearts of all present at the ITF ground.
Taare Andaman Ke by DDK
Port Blair, Jan 13: For the first time in the Islands Doordarshan Kendra Port Blair is going to telecast, the long awaited Music Reality Show “Taare Andaman Ke” in which children between age group of 06 to 13 years will be participating, from 16th January 2012 at 6.25 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Hasya Kavi Sammelan at Exhibition Ground on Jan 13
Port Blair, Jan 12: As part of the programmes of Island Tourism festival-2012, the Official Language Department, A & N Administration will be organizing Hasya Kavi Sammelan at Exhibition ground, Port Blair on 13.01.2012 at 6:00 pm. Mr. Jalaj Srivastav, Principal Secretary (Finance), Andaman and Nicobar Administration will be the chief guest on the occasion.
The poets who are coming from mainland to participate in this programme are Mr. Shailesh Lodha; Dr. Suresh Awasthi; Mr. Sanjay Jhala; Dr. Vishnu Saxena; Mr. Balbir Singh’Karun’ and Dr. Sarvesh Asthana.
Euphoria Rock Band to perform at Netaji Stadium on January 12
Port Blair, Jan 10: The much awaited performance of EUPHORIA ROCK BAND is scheduled to be held at Netaji Stadium on 12th Jan 2012 at 7.00 pm. The performance of Euphoria band is organized by the Directorate of Tourism as a part of Island Tourism Festival 2012.
The artists of Euphoria including the lead singer Dr. Palash Sen is expected to arrive Port Blair today. The performance is open to all without any entry tickets. For the general public the entry is through the main gate of Netaji stadium. They can sit in the main stand to watch the programme.
For invitees entry is through the gate at Marina Park.
The Euphoria band is nationally known rock band group and is performing live in the Islands. The band group consists of 14 members including singers, instruments, engineers and technicians. The sound effects for the bands are specially flown from Chennai along with sound technicians.
PET to present prog at Netaji Stadium on Jan 14
Port Blair, Jan 10: The Police Entertainment Team had presented a programme on 25.12.2011 at Netaji Stadium. Due to rain, the programme had many breaks. Many persons left the venue half-way through.
The show will now be presented to members of the public on 14.01.2012 at Netaji Stadium starting from 1800 hours.
Subhash Mela at Havelock
Port Blair, Jan 10: To mark the birthday of great Freedom Fighter Netaji Subash Chandra Bose’, the Subhash MelaVivekananda Club Committee will organize the 41st Subhash Mela at Krishna Nagar, Havelock from 23 to 29 January 2012. The shopkeepers’ interested to errect their temporary stalls/shops at mela complex and also those interested to participate in the jatra /drama and cultural programme during the mela can apply to Secretary of the Subhash Mela Committee within 18th January 2012.
Pongal celebration by ATS
Port Blair, Jan 10: The Pongal celebration will be organised by the Andaman Tamizhar Sangam at 5 pm on Jan 15, 2012 at Sangam auditorium. The President, Andaman Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Mr. G. Bhaskar will be the chief guest on the occasion while Prof. SP Veerapandian will be the guest of honour and deliver the keynote address. Prizes will be awarded to the winners of the competitions held earlier in connection with Pongal festival.
