Port Blair, July 04: Nine persons have been arrested from a gambling den at Dairy Farm on Tuesday (3rd July) and Rs.23, 405/- gambling money seized from them.

Receiving credible information, a police team of PS Aberdeen comprising of SHO SI Stalin, HC Manoj, PC Horo, PC Hanifa, PC Junas, PC Sartaj, PC Ravi and PC(Drv.) Gurjeev under the supervision of ASP Mr. Chinmoy Biswal raided the gambling den near Ganesh Temple on Tuesday evening and arrested nine persons namely Samshad Ali (29) yrs. R/o Calicut, Dilli Rao (37) yrs. R/o Dairy Farm, K. Senthil Kumar (34) yrs. R/o Dairy Farm, Dainy (38) yrs. R/o Dairy Farm, G. Somesh (31) yrs. R/o Dairy Farm, Krishna Rao (35) yrs. R/o Phongy Chang, Puspa Raj (25) yrs. R/o Dairy Farm, Jashpal (27) yrs. R/o Dairy Farm and Sethupathi (38) yrs. R/o Dairy Farm from the den. Rs.19,300/- as the board money alongwith 52 Nos. playing cards were seized from the spot and Rs.4105/- from their personal search. The gamblers have been booked under the A&N Gambling Regulation and challaned to the Court.

Port Blair, June 25: In an intensive excise checking to enforce the observance of dry day, in connection with CCS Managing Committee election today (24/06/12), the staff of PS CCS under the supervision of S.I Girish Kumar developed intelligence about the hoarding of IMFL at Junglighat sea shore by one M.Krishnan S/o Late Minikarapan (55) yrs. Immediately, a raiding team comprising of S.I Mohamad Sameer, S.I Zainudeen, HC KR Murgesan, PCs A.P Tiwari, Sameer . Ahmed, Thangaraj, Srinivasu, Sujit Dutta, Sikendar Khan and HG Shanmuk Rao raided the residence of above bootlegger and recovered 208 Nos. of 750 ml sealed bottles of various brands and seized them from the possession of aforesaid accused person under the cover of seizure memo and the bootlegger was arrested u/s 32 Reg. Ill of 1876 on the spot. The bootlegger had kept the huge quatity of IMFL to sell it in black market at a huge premium as the ANIIDCO shops were closed on 24/06/12 an account of dry day. Further investigation of the case is in progress.

Prompt action by PS Aberdeen Staffs

Port Blair, May 21: Sending strong signals to traffic rule violators, the staffs of PS Aberdeen today imposed challan on a group of youngsters, participating in a marriage procession, for causing obstruction to traffic and driving their vehicles dangerously.

According to eyewitnesses, the challan was imposed when a group of citizen informed the Police about open violation of traffic rules by some people in a marriage procession.

These people had reportedly blocked the road at Bengali Club Junction and were bursting crackers. There were many who were driving bikes dangerously without wearing helmet. When the information was passed to Police, the staffs of PS Aberdeen immediately swung into action and circled the marriage procession near Middle Point BJP office and imposed challan on 10 bike riders for ‘dangerous driving’. It has been learnt that the loud speakers have also been seized by Police.

Though the step have certainly soured the joy of marriage party but this kind of challan is needed, as for only a few people in marriage procession, entire city usually face great inconvenience. The A & N Police must continue such raids to keep roads of these Islands keep roads of these Islands safe.

Shaji Murder Case Update

Port Blair/New Delhi, May 17:  Holding that the murder had occurred in the “heat of passion” during a “sudden” quarrel, the Supreme Court has altered to 8 years rigorous imprisonment the life term in jail of a man who attacked a cop with a sharp weapon and later pushed him into the sea in Andaman andNicobar Islands.

“The act of the appellant even when tantamount to commission of culpable homicide will not amount to murder as the same was committed without any pre-mediation and in a sudden fight, in the heat of passion, in the course of a sudden quarrel without the offender taking undue advantage or acting in a cruel or unusual manner,” the apex court observed.

A bench of justices T S Thakur and Gyan Sudha Misra passed the judgement while partly allowing an appeal filed by Abdul Nawaz challenging the life imprisonment imposed by the sessions court in Andaman andNicobar Islandsat Port Blair and affirmed by the Calcutta High Court.

Nawaz, allegedly engaged in smuggling of diesel along with a few others, had entered into a scuffle with head constable Shaji of Chatham Police Station and attacked him with a “dao” (sharp-edged weapon) on the head on March 19, 2008, on a dingy.

Shaji, who sustained grievous head injury, was later pushed into the waters by Nawaz resulting in his death.

The reason for the attack was said to be the deceased’s effort to prevent the smuggling, resulting in the scuffle.

The apex court however, rejected the argument of the defence that the convict had no knowledge that his action would result in the death of the victim.

“The injury on the head and the push into the sea have, therefore, to be construed as one single act which the appellant ought to have known was likely to cause death of the deceased.

“Even so, exception 4 to Section 300 of the IPC would come to the rescue of the appellant in as much as the act of the appellant even when tantamount to commission of culpable homicide will not amount to murder,” the bench said.

Port Blair, May 11: In a major break through, the Rangat Police has apprehended 04 Myanmar nationals from Mark Bay Island during the peak night hrs.

Acting on a information about presence 04 Burmese nationals near Mark Bay Island a team comprising of SI Mahesh Kumar SHO PS Rangat along with PC/1444 J.K. Tirkey, PC/2214 Anil Yadav, PC/1573 P.K. Golder, PC/1106 Kokhan, Dutta, HG/457 Bhasker Rao, HG/478 Thandeswaran and other 02 civilians namely Mr. K. Krishna Rao and Mr. Deepak Kerketta both R/o Rangat Bay immediately left for Mark Bay by a dinghy for antipoaching operation. After reaching Mark Bay Island the team conducted search operating during extreme darkness and after locating surrounded the 04 Myanmarese. On seeing Police party, 02 Myanmar nationals tried to escape and all 04 of them were apprehended after firing 04 rounds in air at 0115 hrs. on 11.05.2012 Later the apprehended Myanmar nationals were brought to PS Rangat on 11.05.2012 at 0505 hrs. from where they have been sent to PS CCS for further legal action.
