Mobile seized in Prothrapur Jail, Inquiry yet to be ordered

Port Blair, Oct 29: Seizure of a cell phone from one of the inmates of Prothrapur Jail has set the alarm bell ringing. There are allegations that the Jail authorities are allegedly planning to hush-up the matter. Surprisingly the mobile phone was found on 22nd or 23rd October but till now no inquiry has been ordered by Administration.

Highly placed sources told Andaman Sheekha that the mobile phone was seized from one of the inmates, who was recently arrested for looting tribals people.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the mobile phone belonged to one of the senior officials of the Jail but the matter has now been downplayed and top officials are now in denial mode.

When contacted one of the senior officials of Prothrapur Jail said that the mobile phone was actually found inside one of the barracks of Prothrapur Jail by Jail officials.

“Yes a Cell Phone was seized during normal checking. Always we find some of the other things during checking. The cell was found inside a barrack. We are enquiring although a file is being put up for proper inquiry,” said a senior official of Prothrapur Jail, who does not want his name to be quoted.

He accepted that the matter was not shared with media as the issue will bring bad name for the Jail authorities.

“We always check each and everyone when anyone goes inside even the wardens.

Criminals are one step ahead of us that’s why they are criminal and we are normal,” he said.

Giving excuse of shortage of staffs, the senior officer said that there are nearly 40-50 field staffs in Prothrapur Jail now and the Jail needs more than 100 staffs so that proper watch can be maintained.

Wildlife articles seized in Andaman were not ‘elephant tusks’: Forest Department

Port Blair, Oct 16: The row over wildlife articles seized by Andaman and Nicobar Police three weeks back, has ended with the confirmation given by the Forest Department that the wildlife materials were not Elephant Tusks.

A Wildlife Offence in respect of elephant tusk (as claimed by police) case was detected by the Central Crime Station of Andaman and Nicobar Police and was handed over to the Range Officer Mayabunder on Sept. 30 for taking further action.

On the same day, the Range Officer, Mayabunder intimated about the seizure of property to the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court Mayabunder. The Court registered a Criminal Case against the offence.

Meanwhile, the samples seized were sent to Sr. Veterinary Officer, Webi, Mayabunder for its analysis.

“The Senior Veterinary Officer, Veterinary Hospital, Webi has reported that the sample produced is not ivory. The sample appears as bone and not the tusk of an Elephant,” the Divisional Forest Officer, Mayabunder Division told media today.

The DFO assured that the case is under investigation and further necessary action will be taken as per the provision of the law.

Gamblers Arrested from Manpur

Port Blair, Oct 15: Andaman and Nicobar Police have arrested seven gamblers from Manpur Village.

On 13/10/12 at 2100 hrs on credible information about gambling at Manpur village a team of Police Personnel led by SI VP Mishra conducted raid at Manpur and nabbed 7 people involved in Gambling at Community Hall, Manpur.

An amount of Rs. 16,830/- was recovered as board money and all the 7 accused (s) namely Jiten Madhu, K. Naggappan, K Muruganthan, Bawra Nag, Dijen Biswas, Mukundo Mondal and S Chakraborthy were arrested for violation of A&N Gambling Reg 1956.

The police team comprised of Police Constable KA Siddique & Peter and HomeGuard Swaroop & Abdul Majeed. The entire operation was enducated under their direct guidance of SI Sahil Shamsuddin SHO PS Ograbraj under the overall supervision of Mr. T Sebasteen, DySP(MA).

More arrests possible in Elephant Tusk smuggling Case

Diglipur, Sept 30: Andaman and Nicobar Police may arrest a few more people in the Elephant Tusk smuggling case. Two pieces of Elephant Tusks were seized in a joint operation by the Central Crime Station and the CID on Friday.

According to reports on Friday at around 2.00 am on a tip off the Forest Officials stopped a car near Restcamp, Mayabunder which is coming from Diglipur and recovered two Elephant Tusks weighing 65 kg. and arrested the occupants Mr. Probir Bala, Mrs. Seema Bala and Sanjay Gain. Further investigation is on.

The Police team and Forest Team are trying to establish whether for these two pieces of Elephant Tusk any Elephant was killed in Andamans.

Tents and other belongings of Viper Activists Stolen

Port Blair, Sept 25: In a weird incident, tents and other valuable belongings of Viper Island activists from Subhash Chandra Press Club has been stolen from their protest site.

According to report some miscreants have taken away with one Plastic table; two G.I. Pipe frames for stage, two Marine plies, eight G.I. Pipes 6 mtr. Long, three wooden buttons, two Tarpaulin 8 x 6 mtr., 200 mtr plastic rope, one Press Club Board (4 x 6 feet Plywood) with photo of Mahatma Gandhi and four Banners Subhash Chandra Press Club different sizes.

“Our indefinite Dharna has been all along peacefully, without any violence at no point of time since it being staged in democratic manner from 05/03/2012 onward. In view of rainy season the members & supporters have erected a temporary tent using G.I. Pipes and tarpaulins to protect them from sun & rain. On 25/09/2012 at about 9.00 am, when we reached at Dharna point, it is found that the entire tent and supporting materials detailed below have been stolen by some unknown persons in the intervening night of 24/25-09-2012,” Mr. Shyam Singh Yadav, General Secretary of Subhash Chandra Press Club told Andaman Sheekha today.

Meanwhile a police complaint has already been launched by the SCPC today.

The Viper Activists have been protesting against 50 berth yacht marina infront of the Secretariat Gate of Andaman and Nicobar Islands since 5, March 2012.

Police recovers huge Quantity of IMFL on Dry-Day

Port Blair, Sept 25: Altogether 189 bottles of IMFL/Wine/Beers were recovered from El-Darado Bar & Restaurants Havelock on 23/09/12 for violating the dry-day declared in connection with Panchayat By-elections held on 23/9/12 at Havelock. In this connection the DC/South Andaman had declared dry-day for September 23rd and 25th 2012.

To ensure free and fair election and to maintain law & order, adequate police arrangements were made. On the same day evening at 1910 hrs, Sub-Inspector Abita Bachan, SHO PS Havelock, SI Mithun Kirtonia, HC/Vjay Shanker, PC/Sharma & PC/Hanifa while on mobile patrolling in the Havelock area and passing beside the EI-Derado Bar and Restaurant noticed a crowd in and around the said bar.

On suspicion, the Police party immediately raided the aforesaid Bar. Seeing the Police party, the public fled away from there. However, the manager of the Bar was caught. On further checking, IMFL bottles of various brands were found displayed at the bar counter. Altogether 189 bottles of IMFL including wine/beers and cash Rs. 2000/- have been recovered from EI-Darado Bar.

For violation of the condition contained in the Bar license issued to the aforesaid bar and violation of the direction (dry-day) of the authority, the manager of the said bar Sudhansu Das S/o B.K. Das is arrested on the spot and a case crime no. 39/12 under Excise Regulation has been registered upon him at PS Havelock. The above operation was carried out under the supervision of Mr. B. Saigal, Dy. Superintendent of Police, Havelock Sub-Division.

“The general public is highly solicited to pass on any such information to the local police on following telephone Nos. 9434289982, 282253 and 232100. The identity of the informer will be kept secret,” a release from Police Department said here today.

Police raids Diglipur Homeopath’s clinic for the second time

Diglipur illegal abortion case: Homeopath’s PC ends today

Diglipur, Sept 24: The Diglipur Police today once again raided the clinic of Diglipur Homeopath Dr. Nikhil K. Roy to seize those medicines, which were allegedly prescribed to a lady by the Homeopath last moth for illegal abortion.

Sources have confirmed that even after today’s raid Police could not find any such medicines in the clinic of Dr. Roy, however police team was able to recover one tablet and tablet-cover from the house of the victim girl, who has been admitted in CHC Diglipur, as she developed complication after consuming those medicines. On 22nd September first raid was conducted by police on the Homeopath’s clinic.

According to details the Homeopath was arrested on 21st September 2012 for illegal abortion and he was send to Police Custody for three days. Tomorrow the Homeopath will be produced in court once again, it is learnt.

According to reports the Police has also arrested Mr. Saji Samuel, the husband of the victim girl as the girl has given statement to police that the abortion was done without her consent.

Two teachers found guilty for outraging the modesty of several school going girls

Port Blair, Sept 16: On 07.08.2009 a case had registered at P.S. Mayabunder vide Crime No. 113/03 dated 07.08.2009 u/s 354/506/34 IPC against Badal Kumar Paul S/o Shri Dinobandhu Paul R/o Panighat and Anil Kumar Dhali S/o Late Ananto Kumar Dhali R/o Pahalgaon both were the teachers of GSSS Pahalgaon involved themselves in outraging the modesty of several school going girls of tender age at GSS School Pahalgaon, in the 1st & 2nd week of August 2009 and the investigation entrusted to ASI Mahesh Ram of OP Rest Camp.

After investigation both accused were chargesheeted vide P.S. Mayabunder Chagesheet No. 128/09 dated 20/08/2009 u/s 354/506/34 IPC.

The trial of this case was conducted at the Hon’ble court of JFMC Mayabunder. During the trial, 17 witnesses were examined. After hearing both parties the Hon’ble JFMC, Mayabunder held the accused persons are guilty for the offence u/s 354/506 IPC and they are sentenced to suffer simple imprisonment of one year and to pay a fine of Rs. 2000/- each in default one month imprisonment for the offence u/s 354 IPC and both of them are further sentenced to six months simple imprisonment for the offence u/s 506 IPC.

The sentence of imprisonment shall run concurrently for the both offences. If fine amount is paid then 50% of the fine amount be paid to the victim girls as compensation.

IMFL Recovered From STS Bus Conductor by Baratang Police

Port Blair, Sept 13: On 12.09.2012 at 130 hrs S.I. Vikash Singh, SHO PS Baratang, alongwith PC/383 Mohd. Rafiq and PC/307 Bhanu Issac, while on patrolling from Oral Kaatcha to South Creek noticed a person handing a bag to another.

On suspicion of some illegal act being indulged in by them, Police party raided and recovered 18 Nos. 750 ml. bottle IMFL from the possession of 2 persons namely K.Simhachalam S/o Late K.Appalswamy (52) yrs R/o pathargudda (STS Bus Conductor) Diglipur Express, and Walter Kujur S/o Late Pawal Kujur (30) yrs. R/o Bamboonallah, Baratang.

The above accused persons were arrested and IMFL was seized on the spot. In this connection a case under excise regulation has been registered at Police Station Baratang. On questioning K. Simachalaman, an STS Bus conductor confessed to have procured these IMFL bottles from Diglipur and was selling it to a civilian in a prohibited area at a higher price to make some profit.

“Police of P.S. Baratang is making its sincere efforts, to eradicate the illegal trade of IMFL in the buffer zone of Baratang area. General public is requested to pass on any credible information regarding criminal/ illegal activities in their area to Police Control Room-100, SHO Baratang at 03192-279503 & SP/SA at 03192-233077 and it is assured that the identity of the informant would be kept secret and information leading to successful raid would entitle the informant of a handsome reward,” a press release issued by A & N Police Department said here today.

Police arrests notorious burglar Bipul Biswas

Port Blair, Sept 12: In a major breakthrough, on 06/09/12 the Pahargaon Police has arrested a notorious burglar Bipul Biswas, who was wanted in 3 burglary cases which occurred in Garacharma & Bathu Basti area during the last one year. Altogether, 120 gms. of gold ornaments, Rs. 90,000/-in cash and 12 nos. mobile phones have been recovered in these three cases.

A police team comprising of the Investigating Officers of the three cases led by SHO Pahargaon worked in unison to solve the burglary cases. The arrested accused Bipul Biswas was found to be involved in these cases but he has been evading from arrest since the last one year. Five of his accomplices including two receivers of stolen property namely (1) Mohd. Aslam R/o Garacharma (2) Gopal Biswas R/o Naushad Colony (3) Deepak Bepari R/o Joda Kilan (4) Anin Kumar R/o Bathubasti and (5) Smti Kamalam R/o Namunaghar have been arrested in these cases.

The successful crackdown is a result of continuous surveillance and intelligence gathered by the police. After their arrest, the accused have been produced before the Hon’ble Court.
