Port Blair, December 17: The cancellation of Spicejet flights between Port Blair and mainland over the last 2 days has resulted in a large number of tourists and other passengers stranded at Port Blair causing great hardship to them. The Chief Secretary (i/c), Smt Rina Ray, on hearing the plight of the stranded passengers took up the case with the Spicejet Authorities as well as the Ministry of Civil Aviation, including DGCA.
She requested the Ministry to direct Air India to have a special flight to Port Blair to help evacuate the stranded passengers from Port Blair. Hon’ble Lt Governor, Lt. Gen A.K. Singh (Retd) who is at Delhi, on being apprised of the situation also spoke to Shri Somasundrum, Secretary (Civil Aviation), Govt. of India and urged him to intervene in the matter and direct the Air India Authority to have a special flight to Port Blair immediately.
Secretary (CA), Shri Somasundrum assured the Lt Governor that he would look into the matter. The Andaman Chamber of Commerce & Industries and the local Hoteliers have also come forward and are assisting the Administration in sorting out the problem.
26 years old man jumps into sea from MV Nicobar

Port Blair, Dec 16: A 26 year old man today jumped into the sea from the vessel MV Nicobar near Ross Island at about 12:00pm for committing suicide.
According to sources, the vessel left the Haddo port for Kolkata at 10:30 am in the morning, and as the vessel reached near Ross Island at 12:00pm the man jumped into the sea.
Co passengers who saw the man jumping into the sea, immediately informed the matter to the seamen of the vessel, and on information the ship engine shut down to look for the person. Sources also claimed that the person started swimming towards the shore after jumping into the sea.
A strong watch was kept by the seamen of the ship while the person was swimming.
Later the person reached the Dugnabad seashore, near Loknath Temple by swimming. A team of Police Marine Force and Police reached the spot and took the Person to the G.B. Pant Hospital.
Police Seize Illegal Timber
Port Blair, Dec 16: On credible information Police party from PS Bambooflat and OP Wimberlygunj comprising of SI Mohd. Elias , SHO PS Bambooflat, SI Deepak Mukherjee, I/c OP Wimberlygunj, HC/2333 P. Abdul Salam, PC/1193 P.H Naushad, PC/1905 A.K Roy & HG/Majeed under the supervision of ShriMohd. Aslam, SDPO (Bambooflat) intercepted Bolero pick-up van bearing registration No. AN01 F-8588 at Padauk Bagicha and found 50 nos. padauk pieces being carried in the van.
The driver of the vehicle was unable to produce any document with respect to purchase/transportation of wooden pieces. Forest Officials were called to the spot who identified the wooden pieces to be padauk. 50 nos. padauk pieces along with Bolero Pick-up van were seized under relevant sections of Indian Forest Act, 1927.
The seized articles & driver P. Moideen Kutty R/o Model Village Wimberlygunj have been handed over to Range Officer, Mannarghat for further legal action.
WagonR hits Maruti 800 at Nayagaon; No injuries

Port Blair, Dec 16: A WagonR car today hit a Maruti 800 car at Nayagaon at 5:45 pm. According to reports, while taking a right turn the driver of the WagonR did not notice a Maruti 800 coming from front and while taking a right the drive hit the light of the Maruti 800 car. It is learnt that there was some compromise between the two drivers. Luckily no one suffered any injury.
Turtle comes on Haddo Sea-Shore Road, Rescued

Port Blair, Dec 11: A full-size Turtle was sighted at Haddo near Chatham Police Station this noon. According to reports the Turtle came out of sea and was walking on the sea shore road. A huge crowd gathered to see the magnificent creature, many started clicking photographs. Soon the wildlife division of Forest was intimated. Later the staffs of wildlife division rescued the Tortoise and took it to some safe location.
One arrested from Junglighat for raping a minor

Port Blair, Dec 10: One person has been arrested today by PS Aberdeen for allegedly raping a minor. According to reports the crime was committed a few days back but the complaint has been launched yesterday by the 17 years old girl and her family. The accused, name yet not known, 22 years, is said to be the neighbor of the victim, who lives in Junglighat Fishermen colony with her parents. The rape was committed in the boy’s house and it is not yet clear why there was so much delay in lodging the complaint. The accused will be produced to court tomorrow.
Youth commits suicide inside ATR Bus: Drinks Pesticide

Diglipur, Dec 09: A boy identified as Nani Gopal Das, 23 years, resident of Subhash Gram, Diglipur today committed suicide by consuming some poison, inside Port Blair bound Anand Bus.
Initial investigation says the boy had consumed Pesticide, used in paddy fields.
While the young man’s family members are wallowing in mourning, neighbours and acquaintance too are still reeling from shock over his sudden death. The question everyone asking is: Why would a young, able-bodied choose to take his own life?
According to highly placed sources the boy was in love with a girl, who is studying in Mayabunder College and because of some kind of misunderstanding he committed suicide.
Sources said that the boy purchased ticket for the Bus in the morning and got seat number 23. At Kalra Junction, close to Diglipur, the Bus conductor checked his ID but when the Bus reached Mayabunder and some fellow passengers came down to relieve themselves, people inside the bus found the boy unconscious. He was immediately rushed to Mayabunder Hospital, where he was declared dead.
According to reports, the father of the boy had called him several times in the morning, when he found his son is not there at home. The boy did not even pick up the calls. According to fellow passengers he spoke to the girl sitting inside the bus before taking this extreme step.
POLICE SOLVES BLIND MURDER CASE OF DIGLIPUR::::Fuming over missing Ganja, Father kills mentally challenged Son

Diglipur, Dec 05: In a shocking incident a person killed his son in Diglipur, when he found some quantity of Ganja is missing from his house.
According to reports available with Andaman Sheekha Shyamal Sikdar, aged nearly 50 years, an auto driver by profession killed his 20 year old son out of anger, when he found that some quantity of Ganja is missing from his house.
According to sources on 25th November the father strangled his son, Subho Sikdar, to death. After murder he remained calm and acted as if his son, who is mentally challenged, has gone missing and requested villagers to look for his son. However he didn’t lodge missing report in nearby Police Station.
On 27th November villagers located the body of Shubho Sikdar and soon a case of Unnatural Death was lodged in nearby Police Station later according to villagers, after Post Mortem it was learnt that the boy was actually killed, following which a Murder Case was lodged in PS Diglipur.
The Police Team of PS Diglipur, under the leadership of SHO Stalin and supervision of the Dy.S.P North Andaman, Mr. Chander Kumar and SP North and Middle Andaman, Mr. Santosh Kumar Meena worked out the case very actively and zeroed the father of the accused.
According to villagers the accused was also involved in Ganja selling and people used to go to his house for purchasing Ganja. It is believed that when he found shortage in his Ganja Stock he suspected that his son has taken the Ganja and took this extreme step.
Meanwhile, the official version of Police is yet to receive. When contacted Dy.S.P North Andaman, Mr. Chander Kumar refused to comment in this matter and said that the case is presently under investigation.
Bus hits man carrying seven month old baby

Port Blair, Nov 30: A bus of State Transport Service (No. 403) hit a man, carrying seven month old baby, infront of Junglighat Bus Stand at 7.15 PM.
According to reports, the baby suffered some head injuries and was immediately rushed to the Hospital. The man suffered minor injuries on his back.
According to the reports, the man was walking on the road with his wife, carrying the baby when he was hit by the bus from behind. The driver of the bus reportedly lost control while negotiating with other vehicles on road.
Immediately a crowd gathered around the bus while the driver, escaped from the spot and reached to the Aberdeen Police Station directly. Police is carrying out further investigation.
Ranchi Basti Boy beaten for checking his neighbour out

Port Blair, Nov 30: A boy of Ranchi Basti, who was checking a girl out by hiding, was heavily beaten by the girl’s brothers after the girl detected the boy.
According to report, yesterday at around 8.00 PM, the girl suddenly saw her neighbor, a boy, peeping at her and she complained this to her brothers, who thrashed the boy. On complaint police reached the spot and took the boy to G B Pant Hospital for medical.
