Port Blair, April 13: A girl student, studying B.Com in a local college and staying in the JNRM girls’ hostel
attempted to commit suicide by jumping into the sea near Marina Park this afternoon at around 12:30pm.
As per sources, the girl was under depression because of some personal reasons. Fortunately, when the girl took this step some of the lifeguards were present on the spot, who saved the girl from drowning. It is learnt that the girl is now admitted in the Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital, further details are awaited.
Rupees 4000 stolen from a house at Nabagram
Diglipur, April 08: One person has been arrested from Diglipur today for stealing an amount of Rs. 4000 from one house situated at Nabagram.
As per reports money was stolen on 6th April when the owner of the house, Mr. Kishor Kumar Mondal, was busy in late night works in Nabagram village Mela.
Making use of the opportunity the accused Mr. Ajay Roy, aged 25 years, committed the theft but while committing the crime the daughter of the house owner saw him.
It is learnt that Mr Ajay was arrested by the police yesterday and an amount of Rs. 2000 was recovered from his possession while the rest amount was spent by the accused for consuming alcohol.
Widow demands proper probe in the death case of her husband

Port Blair, April 08: A widow, namely Mrs Gouri Rani Adhikari has demanded proper probe in the death of her husband Late Robin Adhikari who died in G B Pant hospital recently.
In a letter addressed to the Lt Governor, Mrs Gouri stated that her husband was referred to G B Pant hospital, Port Blair on 14.06.2016 in serious condition by road in Hospitals Ambulance. The Ambulance departed from Billyground at early hours i.e 04:00 am and reached at Port Blair at 09:30am.
Mrs Gouri stated that the her husband was not even provided proper basic facilities in the Ambulance because of which her husband became more serious and as he reached the G B Pant Hospital her husband was admitted in the ICU of G B Pant Hospital.
She further alleged that her husband died on 25.01.2016 at G B Pant Hospital just because of the negligence of Hospital.
Mrs Gouri further stated that when the Doctors were aware that her husband’s condition was very critical then why they didn’t airlift her husband.
She also added that while shifting her husband from one ward to another etc. the staffs didn’t even provide oxygen to her husband even after asking for it.
“My husband was the only earning member of my family and at present my family has no source of income to run our livelihood, as the death is a clear negligence of the Hospital, therefore I request the Lt Governor to provide me appropriate compensation and order an enquiry in the case,” Mrs Gouri said.
Mrs Gouri has addressed the letter to the Lt Governor nearly 2 months back but till date no action has been taken in this regard.
POCSO and threatening case; Two Police Jawans arrested

Port Blair, Apr 07: In two different and shocking incidents, two police jawans have been arrested by Aberdeen and Humphery Gunj Police. According to reports in the first case a police constable of District Special Team Mr. Bhagirat Das has been arrested under POCSO act for sexually exploiting a minor. Sources said that he had relations with the minor following which he had a kid, who died this morning. Bhagirat Das was arrested by police team of Humphery Gunj Police Station.
In second incident another Police Jawan, Mr. Shanker was arrested for threatening a girl. When a police team today reached to Shanker, he reportedly abused the police team and manhandled other jawans who were in duty. Later taking swift action, Shanker was arrested by PS Aberdeen.

Port Blair, April 7: The Chief Secretary, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, Mr Anindo Majumdar visited the Police Headquarters on Wednesday. A meeting with the DGP, Mr Rajesh Malik and senior officers of Andaman & Nicobar Police was held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary in which wide range of issues concerning to security scenario of the Islands, pending issues of police and fire personnel, infrastructure and capacity building, difficulties by police personnel in far flung areas and other related issues were discussed. During the meeting, quarterly news letter of A & N Police was also released by the Chief Secretary.
Various issues related to safety and security of the Islands, measures for protection of aboriginal tribes etc were also highlighted and discussed. The Chief Secretary assured that appropriate action will be taken to resolve all these issues at an early date. Further, the Chief Secretary appreciated role played by the Police department in security set up of the Islands.
One commits suicide when parents are out for checkup

Port Blair, April 06: A man namely Mr Rajat hanged himself using a dupatta with a fan at his home at 0900 hrs situated at Aberdeen on Monday when his father and mother went out for medical checkup at G B Pant Hospital. The reason behind taking this extreme step is yet not known. As per reports PS Aberdeen has registered a UD case in this regard, further details are awaited.
Man slits his wrists following family dispute

Port Blair, April 06: A resident of Hope Town attempted to kill himself by slitting his wrist with a blade on Sunday. As per reports, the man had a dispute with his family members about property and was also under influence of liquor.
On Sunday, it is learnt that when the man came to his house under heavy influence of alcohol he had an argument with his sister regarding property. During the argument the man took this extreme step. It is learnt that the man is now out of danger and further investigations are on.
Caution sounded on violation of Child Marriage Act
Port Blair, April 6: The office of the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman that some marriages are being solemnized between females below the age of 18 years and male below the age of 21 years in some communities with the blessing of the parents and full knowledge of the community head and elders.
This is the clear contravention of the Prohibition of child Marriage Act, 2006. All communities and peoples have been informed to ensure that no marriages are solemnized between females below the age of 18 years and males below the age of 21 years in their community.
The parents and community elders shall be held responsible for any violation of this act subject to the provision of the act and due process of the law henceforth.
ABVP Protests against anti-national activity at JNU, Delhi
Port Blair, Feb 17: The ABVP Port Blair unit on the 16th of February 2016 demonstrated a protest against the recent anti-national activities held at the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi on the 9th of this month. Acting on ABVP’s national call all over the country to protest against the act of treason by the anti- national elements, ABVP’s Port Blair unit took out a procession from Veer Savarkar Park to Tiranga Park. The Protest started with paying floral tribute to Martyr Hanumathappa and Nine other soldiers of the Indian Army at Veer Savarkar Park by The President, Secretary and other office bearers of ABVP. Later a demonstration was staged near Tiranga Park, where an effigy depicting terrorism, separatists and anti-national communism was set on fire by the members of ABVP.
Minor boy shares descriptions of kidnapper to police

Port Blair, December 31: The Andaman and Nicobar Police has got some leads from the Chouldary’s minor boy Nishit Kumar Halder, who was allegedly kidnapped on Tuesday.
Nishit Kumar Halder, S/o Nirmal Halder, studying in class 7th of Vivekananda Kendra Vidhyalaya, Pout Mout was
reportedly kidnapped from Chouldary while he was going to school.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, the Superintendent of Police, District, Mr Santosh Kumar Meena today said that the boy shared descriptions of one of the kidnappers and police is looking for the person.
“We are also trying to locate the place where the 14 year old child was kept after kidnapping,” Mr Meena said.
The police is also trying to understand whether the entire kidnapping plot is a made up or invented story of the boy.
