Port Blair, Apr 07: The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the recent novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic as public health emergency of International Concerned (PHEIC).
In order to prevent the outbreak of COVID-19 in Port Blair City, PBMC has been taken the following initiatives:
1) All sanitary workers are provided with the Personnel Protection Equipment’s such as Mask, Hand gloves, hand sanitizers, etc and are deployed for sanitation of their respective Municipal Wards. It is worth to mention that sanitation services covered all 24 wards including Quarantine Homes/Hotels/Guesthouses.
2) PBMC Frontline Field Heroes are deployed for sanitization at large footfall areas such as Bathu Basti, Junglighat, Mohanpura, Ratnam Market and Dignabad, Round Basti, Sisty Nagar and Atlanta Point.
3) PBMC retrofitted water tanker into Mobile Spraying Machine to disinfect areas at large.
Once again PBMC appeals general public to maintain social distance, Stay Calm, Stay Safe and Stay Home.
Guidelines issued for management of persons in home/institutional quarantine facilities: Persons under institutional quarantine to be discharged after due testing
Port Blair, Apr 7: The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India has issued Guidelines with reference to management of persons in home/institutional quarantine facilities. The latest guidelines issued on 05.04.2020 provided that the persons who are under Institutional Quarantine will only be discharged from quarantine facilities after due testing from the designated laboratory. These samples for tests shall be taken on 13th or 14th day of their quarantine period. Thereafter, the respective State/UT Administration will wait for the results of tests from the designated laboratory and after taking into account the tests results, the persons who are under Institutional Quarantine will be discharged. Further, they will be released with the direction to self-monitor their health at their homes (home quarantine) for next 14 days and immediately report to the District Surveillance Officer (DSO) or call 102/232102 in case of development of symptoms suggestive of COVID-19.
In this regard, the UT Administration of Andaman & Nicobar Islands is currently keeping 400 suspect cases under Institutional Quarantine in Govt. Guest Houses/Private Hotels. These are the persons who travelled from mainland to the Islands as well as suspect cases who are the contacts of confirmed cases. The process of testing of these suspects has been started and will be completed within 02-03 days. Therefore, persons who are under Institutional Quarantine should wait for the results of tests of COVID-19 being performed on them. As soon as the test results are communicated by RMRC-ICMR, Dollygunj, Port Blair, the Administration will consider the discharge of quarantine. This is required to ensure that the discharged person is 100% free from the infection of the virus.
The Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman has already prepared a Containment Plan for the areas from which confirmed cases were detected and a massive drive is going on to screen all residents of these areas on a daily basis to identify the suspect contacts to prevent community transmission of virus. Moreover, to contain the virus locally, it was also decided that no person will be allowed to visit North & Middle Andaman District and Car Nicobar District from South Andaman district without having a Negative tested report for COVID-19 from the RMRC-ICMR Laboratory. The movement will be allowed only for emergency services. All residents of the Islands, have therefore, been requested to extent all help and cooperation to the Administration to effectively contain the spread of COVID-19 in the Islands.
Shaheed Dweep youth arrested under POCSO Act
Port Blair, March 18: A POCSO case has been registered at Police Station Hut Bay yesterday against a youth of Shaheed Dweep. As per information the accused had an affair with the minor girl of Little Andaman and also had physical relationship.
When the matter came into the knowledge of the family members of the girl a case was registered at PS Hut Bay and the accused was arrested. Further details are awaited.
POCSO & Kidnapping Case: one Arrested

Port Blair, March 18: A minor girl from Port Blair city was missing for some days following which a Kidnapping case was registered at PS Aberdeen. Later it is found that the minor girl went to Mainland India with a 24 year old guy of Port Blair city.
On getting information a police team went to Chennai and arrested the youth and brought the minor girl back. The minor girl was found pregnant following which a POCSO case was also registered against the accused. The accused has been sent to judicial custody.
Three Cops arrested by CCS team on drug peddling charges

Port Blair, Mar 17: The CCS unit of Andaman and Nicobar Police yesterday arrested three cops, who were allegedly trying to sell highly addictive drugs at Phoenix Bay area of Port Blair.
According to reports all three cops of constable rank had obtained these drugs from some friend in Car Nicobar, where these drug packages had washed ashore, across the beaches of Mus to Malacca villages, several weeks back.
It is believed that all these packets contained highly addictive and powerful drug Methamphetamine, however confirmation on the name of drug is still waited.
Sources said that the fourth partner at Car Nicobar might had obtained this drug somehow and sent to Port Blair for selling the same.
Meanwhile, the police department is tight lipped in this case and is not revealing the names of the accused. However, Andaman Sheekha has information that two cops out of three are posted at GO’s mess and the other one from Fire Services. Further details are awaited.
As mentioned, Methamphetamine is a powerful, highly addictive stimulant that affects the central nervous system. Also known as meth, blue, ice, and crystal, among many other terms, it takes the form of a white, odorless, bitter-tasting crystalline powder that easily dissolves in water or alcohol.
According reports in international media Myanmar has become the world’s biggest meth producer and these packets might have reached Car Nicobar Shores from some drug running vessels of Myanmar.
Drug Peddlers arrested with a huge quantity of Ganja

Port Blair, March 17: In recent crackdowns, a unit of Aberdeen Police Station was successful in nabbing three ganja peddlers with around 02 kilograms of Ganja.
As per reports, today a youth namely Suresh Kumar of Garacharma went to Phoenix Bay to sell the Ganja to other peddlers. As per sources, the youth brought that ganja from Tamil Nadu a couple of weeks ago.
Following a tip off, the unit of Aberdeen Police unit reached the Phoenix Bay area and raided the person after which huge quantity of Ganja was recovered from his possession. The accused is currently in police custody.
Similarly on, 11th March 2020 in the evening, a unit of Aberdeen Police Unit seized around 150 grams of Ganja from the possession of Chandran Karmakar,a resident of School Line area.
Also, on 13 March 2020 in the evening at Junglighat area, a unit of Aberdeen Police Unit seized 1.5 kilograms of illicit Ganja from the possession of Prosanto Biswas, a resident of Garacharma.
As per reliable sources in Police, all three cases are interlinked and one of them is said to be the kingpin who brings ganja from Tamil Nadu and sells other peddlers in these Islands. The raid was conducted by Sub Inspector P. Jeevan, PC Suresh, PC Vinod, and PC Nealkunt Rao.
South Andaman Police takes Stringent Action against Bootleggers; 39 IMFL Bottles Seizes; Three Arrest
Port Blair, March 13: South Andaman Police in it constant endeavor to eradicate the menace of illegal sale of liquor. On 12th March, 2020, the District Special Police Team alongwith the concerned SHOs have once again proved their efficiency and efforts to curb down the culprits with seizure of 39 IMFL bottles and effects arrests of three bootleggers.
The District Special Team comprising SI M. Abdul Rasheed, ASI Surya Narayan, constables Bipul Halder & M. Santosh Kumar headed by Insp. Sanjay Kumar, SHO PS Aberdeen and Insp. Mahesh Yadav, SHO PS Pahargaon conducted raids at different places i.e near Ganesh Temple, Dairy Farm, near old CCS, Junglighat & Garacharma of PS Aberdeen & Pahargaon jurisdiction and arrested three persons namely (1) A. Ramu (31) yrs. R/o Dairy Farm, (2) Tilesfor Minj (49) yrs. R/o Bargat line and (3) Michal Raj (62) yrs R/o Garacharma, Murda Khari, who were booked under relevant section of Excise Regulations.
The entire operation took place under SDPO South Andaman, Mrs. Sandhya Swamy, IPS under the overall direction and supervision of Mr. Manoj C., IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District. South Andaman District Police takes Tough Action on Illegal Sale of Liquor: 132 Bottles of IMFL Seizes; Four Arrested
Port Blair, March 11: Acting tough on bootlegging on the day of ‘HOLI’, the South Andaman District Special Police team has registered four excise cases on 10th March, 2020 and arrested four persons with convulsion of 132 IMFL bottles.
Insp. Mahesh Yadav, SHO PS Pahargaon alongwith South Andaman District Special Team comprising SI M. Abdul Rasheed, ASI Surya Narayan, HC Muthu Kumar, Constables M. Santosh Kumar, Bipul Haldar and Holika were conducted early morning and day long raids at New Pahargaon, Austinabad, and Corbyn’s Junction area and recovered 132 IMFL bottles from the possession of four persons namely (1) S. Pandi (38) yrs R/o New Pahargaon (2) M. Ravi (50) yrs. R/o New Pahargaon (3) Uthirabathi Muthaiyan (42) yrs R/o Austinabad and (4) Gokulraj (34) yrs R/o Junglighat near Fish landing Centre and booked under relevant section of Excise cases.

Inappropriate messages in Social Media App; POCSO Case Registered

Port Blair, March 09: A POCSO case has been registered at Police Station Pahargaon on Friday evening, when family members of a minor girl reported that the girl is getting continuous inappropriate messages through a social media app. As per details initially the girl did not inform this matter to her parents out of fear and hesitation but later when she shared the matter with her mother, a complaint was registered at PS Pahargaon. Further inquiry is on in this regard.
Four Arrests in Gambling Raid by South Andaman Police
Port Blair, Mar 05: Continuing with its crackdown on illegal activities, on 4th March of 2020, Insp. Mahesh Kumar, SHO PS Pahargaon alongwith District Special Police Squad arrested 04 persons with recovery of more than 30 thousand rupees.
Acting swiftly on a tipoff, the team comprising Insp. Mahesh Kumar, SHO PS Pahargaon, SI M. Abdul Rasheed, ASI Surya Narayan, HC Muthu Kumar, Constables Bipul Halder and M. Santosh Kumar raided the gambling den at New Pahargaon near Municipal Complex and arrested four persons namely (1) V. Kannan (45) yrs, R/o Junglighat, (2) V. Sundaram (45) yrs, R/o Prothrpur near Mosque, (3) G. Sarvanan (34) yrs, R/o Buniyadabad & (4) Sunny Thomas (58) yrs. R/o Pahargaon near Shiv Temple. A sum of Rs. 30,850/- alongwith 52 Nos. playing card and a Bed sheet were seized from the spot.
