Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept 25: The Chairman of the District Registering Authority, South Andaman, Mr. Arjun Sharma, IAS, has issued a stern warning to private medical practitioners following reports of doctors issuing medical rest and leave certificates without properly verifying the cases. The notice comes in the wake of concerns that such actions, driven by malafide intent, are causing unnecessary disruptions to government operations.
In a recent order, it was highlighted that several certificates issued by private doctors have been rejected by the Medical Board of Government Hospitals. Moreover, government doctors have repeatedly raised the issue of false certifications at various forums. Such unethical practices, the notice stressed, are tarnishing the reputation of the entire medical fraternity.
“It is crucial that all medical practitioners ensure meticulous verification of cases before issuing any medical leave certificates,” the statement read. “Issuing certificates based on inaccurate or malafide assessments undermines the integrity of medical documentation and affects operational efficiency in both the public and private sectors.”
Mr. Arjun Sharma emphasized that strict action will be taken against private doctors found guilty of issuing false certificates. Such actions could include the cancellation of their registration under the Clinical Establishment (Registration and Regulations) Act, 2010, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Clinical Establishment (Registration and Regulations) Rules, 2013. Government doctors have been advised to report any cases of incorrect or false medical leave certificates for further action.
