Port Blair, June 01: In a yet another tragic road accident on Andaman Trunk Road, a police Jawan was killed near Ograbraj Junction at around 3.00 PM today.
According to reports, the accident took place when an overspending truck hit a bike driven by Police constable Mr. Kavaldhari Yadav, 35 years, working in Andaman and Nicobar Police. Because of the accident, the victim fell infront of the front tyres of the truck and was crushed to death on the spot.
Mr. Kavaldhari Yadav, a resident of Tushnabad and posted at Immigration unit of ANP, was going home when this accident happened, while the Truck was coming towards Port Blair.
The police team of PS Ograbraj reached to the spot immediately and after investigation arrested the truck driver who was reportedly under the influence of Alcohol. The body was later shifted to Tushnabad Hospital. Further details are awaited.
Leaked letter regarding CANI OFC project raises many questions: *What’s going on in the mind of the DoT, I am not aware: CGM, BSNL*

Port Blair, June 02: A letter written by Mr. Vineet Sharma, PGM (SP), BSNL to the Administrator of Universal Service Obligation Fund, is doing rounds in social media, which claims that if the services of Chennai Andaman and Nicobar Island OFC service is started early, then the BSNL will have to pay several crores of huge amount, extra.
The letter has now raised many questions and people of Andaman Nicobar Island are curious to know whether this is the reason why BSNL is delaying in providing high speed internet through OFC services of Chennai Andaman and Nicobar Islands, OFC cable to people of Andaman Nicobar Islands.
Amidst claims that a lot of selected people have been provided high speed internet through CANI OFC, Andaman Sheekha Contacted the Chief General Manager of BSNL Andaman Nicobar Island to know the ground realities but the CGM was no willing to give proper answer to the questions.
The Chief General Manager BSNL said that there is no delay at all as the original date for the start of CANI project is 01 July 2020.
When the previous statement of the CGM of facilitating the islanders after 02-03 weeks of the lockdown and waiting for a green signal from DoT was reminded, it jogged his memory following which he immediately said the reason behind the delay in giving the green signal should be asked to the DoT itself by media. “What’s going on in the mind of the DoT, I am not aware of it,” said the CGM.
However, the CGM avoided the original questions about the letter and the truth behind the letter, which is being circulated in social media.
Two Deer found roaming in the city; one Deer dies of dog bite, another rescued

Port Blair, April 24: Two Deer, for reasons not clear swam from Ross Island and reached Port Blair today but unfortunately, it turned into misery for one of the Deer as the Deer became a victim of dog attack. The Deer reportedly died because of dog bites.
As per sources in the Wildlife Division, both the Deer were sighted this morning at 04:00 am following which information was passed on to the Wildlife Division.
While the staffs of the Wildlife were on their way to rescue both the Deer, it is learned by them that one of the Deer became the victim of dog bites.
As per reports, the other Deer has been rescued and is now safe in the Mini Zoo at Haddo. It is learned that the Deer, which survived will be shifted to Chidiyatapu tomorrow.
Geetanjali night bus falls in roadside pit

Mayabunder, Mar 17: The bus of Geetanjali night service met with an accident yesterday at around midnight while coming from North Andaman to Port Blair. According to reports the bus went off the road and fell into a road side pit at Austin II area, leaving nearly five passengers injured. The accident took place at around 12.15 AM. The reason behind the accident is still not known.
Car and Omni collide at Kishorinagar; One injured

Port Blair, Mar 03: An accident took place today at ATR near PHC Kishorinagar, North Andaman at around 10:30 AM.
According to details the accident took place when an Omni, coming from Kishorinagar area and another Black Colour private car coming from Diglipur area, collided with each other. Sources alleged that the car was in wrong side.
One passenger inside the Omni got minor injuries and was given first aid at PHC Kishorinagar.
