Billyground, Oct 25: A three year old baby boy and his grandmother miraculously survived electrocution at Duke Nagar village of Lauki Nallah area of Middle of Andaman.
According to reports, on 23rd October 11 AM, a 3 year old baby boy was playing outside his house when he saw an electric cable lying on the ground, out of curiosity the 3 year old boy touched the cable, which was live, and he suffered electrocution.
Hearing some sound, when grandmother of the boy reached near the boy, she saw that the boy has suffered electrocution. To save the little boy the grandmother also touched the electric cable and she also suffered electrocution.
Thankfully other family members reached on time and rescued both of them.
Both the victims were immediately rushed to PHC Billiground, where after medical treatment by evening both were declared out of danger.
Meanwhile public and Pradhan of Swadesh Nagar Gram Panchayat expressed their anger against Electricity Department, especially the Junior Engineer and the Lineman of the region, as even after complaining many times about poor condition of the electric lines, in the area, the lines neither repaired not replaced, which ultimately lead to this accident, villagers alleged.
People were also angry on the Executive Engineer of the region, as the EE could reach the PHC Billiground only at 5:30 pm, nearly six hours after the major incident.
The fuming villagers reportedly met the EE at PHC Billyground and demand transfer of the JE. The EE reportedly assured to look into this matter.

Pathetic! the current flow should have stopped as soon as the live wire touched the ground since it is fitted with earth fault relays at the nearest transformer / sub-station. Probably Earth fault settings must have been set at a higher value to do away from frequent re-setting and checking of line. Wish the Pradhan of Swadesh Nagar Gram Panchayat take up the matter with the Central Electricity Consumer Redressal Forum near Megapode, Port Blair. Our good wishes with the affected family.
