Port Blair, July 18: As many as 737 tribal students reportedly didn’t attend classes in any schools of Administration of Nicobar District today, following direction of Tribal Councils of Car Nicobar and Nancowrie Islands.
According to reports this action came as a mark of protest by both the tribal councils for Expulsion of Tribal Students from ANIIMS, recently.
According to Tribal Councils as many as nine students were removed from ANIIMS recently following the guidelines of Medical Council of India. The tribal councils had written many letters to the Administration for readmission of these Tribal Students but as nothing was done so far in this regard the Tribal Council today took this step.
Following this an emergency meeting was called at the Emergency Operation Centre of Car Nicobar by the Assistant Commissioner, which was attended by Tribal Council officials, BDO, Education Officer and others.
However, some non tribal student attended school today. As per details after today’s meeting at Car Nicobar it has been communicated to the AC that all tribal students of Car Nicobar and Nancowrie will attend school tomorrow.
“We have been assured that within a week something will be done in t his regard by Administration and therefore till Monday all Tribal Students will attend schools but if nothing is done in next seven days, our students will again boycott schools,” said Rashid Yousuf, Spokesperson Tribal Council.
