Port Blair, July 9: The President, Pradesh Congress Committee, Mr Kuldeep Rai Sharma has urged the Lt. Governor to make arrangements for sale of text books in all subjects for various disciplines through the Government Book Depot of the Education Department to ensure availability of books for students of these islands. In a letter to the Lt. Governor, Mr Sharma said that even after passage of more than a fortnight since commencement of the current academic session 2015-16 for the schools in the A&N Islands , the students belonging to Class IX to Class XIIth throughout the Islands are facing great difficulty in getting the Text Books prescribed by the CBSE and NCERT for all subjects in various streams/discipline such as Science, Arts and Commerce etc. With few private Book Shops available at Port Blair the situation is somewhat better when compared to the distantly located Inter Island schools where hardly any private Book Shops exists, he said.
To resolve the issue of non availability of Text Books for Class IX to Class XI, particularly for students who are not entitled for receipt of Text Books free of cost, the arrangements of sales of prescribed Text Books can easily be done by the Education department of A&N Administration as the Government Book Depot, Port Blair distributes the CBSE and NCERT prescribed Text Books free of cost to all schools in the Islands. For students of Class I to Class VIII under the Right to Education (RTE) Act and for Class IX to Class XII to all schools in the Islands for free distribution to the students belonging to the BPL family, he said.
