Car Nicobar, Aug 29: The National Sports Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and zeal by the Sports loving People of Car Nicobar today. The Directorate of Sports in association with the Department of Education conducted one day Volley ball Championships for men and women at the Bishop John Richardson Stadium. In the Men’s category total 11 teams from the different villages took part and in Women’s league total 6 teams participated to make it a memorable day by winning the Trophy.
The strengths of most of the teams seemed parallel in the beginning matches but later on the teams like Tamaloo, Kimius, Perka and Mus entered into the semifinals displaying some outstanding skills. The final match played between Tamaloo and Kimius was really a tight match with nail biting finish. Though the Tamaloo team won the first set, but the Kimius team made a remarkable comeback in the second set and made the match more interesting by winning the set. But it was the day of Tamaloo boys. In the crucial deciding set the boys did not miss any opportunity of scoring points. The star Smasher Aberdeen entertained the audience with his powerful smashes. Perka team got the third place.
There was huge crowd too, supporting their village’s women’s team. The strong team of Chukchucha won the Championship defeating Kinmai in the final. Tamaloo team got the 2nd Runner up prize.
The Chief Guest, Assistant Commissioner of Car Nicobar Mr. Akhil Kumar while distributing Prizes hoped that the young players will bring laurels to the Islands at the National Level too. The Education Officer Mr. H. Nathaniel and the Block Sports Officer Mr. Virendra Pradhan were also present on the occasion.
