Port Blair, Feb 24: The OPD slip counter of G B Pant Hospital was designed in such a way that atleast five staffs could issue OPD slips to patients. Initially all these counters had staffs, which handled the mad crowd of patients efficiently but since last few months one can see only two staffs handling the massive crowd, while other counters remain free.
Long queues to get an OPD slip, make patients further sick as sometimes it takes more than 40 minutes to get an OPD slip after which again patients have to stand in a long queue outside the rooms of doctors and laboratories. If this remains the condition in Islands’ best government hospital then one can easily imagine what kind of treatment patients are getting in hospitals of remote Islands.
“They have computers and printers ready in other counters too but there is no one to man them. The DHS must make regular visit to OPD block to see how carelessly the things are managed here,” said an angry patient.
