Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 18: The Union Territory Agriculture Technology Management Agency (UTATMA) in association with the Department of Agriculture, A & N Administration at Diglipur organized a two day training programme on “Mushroom Cultivation” at the Community Hall of D.B. Gram under Madhupur Panchayat on 17.10.2024 & 18.10.2024.
Mrs. Arti Singh, Assistant Director (Agri) Diglipur welcomed the gathering and briefed about the scope, importance and nutritive value of Mushroom in present scenario. She briefed about the prospect of employment generation of farm women through Mushroom cultivation. Also elaborated about the prospects for converting lignocellulosic residues from agricultural fields into protein rich biomass. Such processing of agro waste not only reduces environmental pollution but the byproduct of mushroom cultivation is also a good source of manure, animal feeds and soil conditioner.
During the technical session, various aspects of Mushroom Cultivation were explained in detail through the experts Mrs. Seena Pillai, Agriculture Officer (I/c) and Mrs. Kamrun Nisa, Agriculture Assistant viz. different types of Mushroom and suitable Mushroom for these Islands, cultivation techniques of Paddy Straw Mushroom, production and marketing, identification of diseases, its management & precaution, post harvest handling, recipes and value addition of mushroom. The farmers were encouraged to come forward for Mushroom cultivation.
Later during the practical session ATMA staff, Mr. Ranjan Heera and Mrs. Ima Sarkar elaborated about the processing of paddy straw and method of cultivation of mushroom by providing hands-on training. The participants enthusiastically participated in the practical session.
Similar training programme was also conducted in the field of Mrs. Seena W/o Mr. K.N. Subash on 14th to 15th October, 2024 at Keralapuram wherein Dr. Nagnath Bhojane, Senior Veterinary Officer, AH & VS Department was the Chief Guest. In his address he requested the farmers to learn the method of cultivating Mushrooms for practicing in their household.
Representatives from Fisheries and Forest Department also participated in the programme and sensitized about the ongoing schemes and activities of their respective Department. At the end of the training programme, an interactive session for clearing the grievances related to the ongoing departmental schemes and other issues was also conducted.
Altogether 20 farmers each at Keralapuram and Madhupur Panchayat along with PRIs participated in the training programme.
