Port Blair, June 11: The Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman, Dr. Angel Bhati Chauhan today said that farmers who are facing difficulties in going out to their paddy fields for paddy cultivation may apply for e-pass and the passes will be issued by N & M District Administration.
“Already there is no restriction for farmers going to their own fields as most of the farmers live in their land but if someone needs a movement pass for going to paddy field away from home, will be issued e-pass, if applied,” the DC added.
The matter was raised following concerns expressed by some farmers that during this peak time of paddy cultivation they are afraid of going to the fields, fearing challan. Some people who work in others’ field were also afraid of going out of their houses.
The assurance given by the DC North and Middle Andaman regarding e-pass for farmers, will certainly give a lot of confidence to farmers. In most cases paddy produced during this season by farmers is consumed by them for the entire year and hence this season is very crucial for farmers.
Regarding vaccination, the Deputy Commissioner added that nearly 32 percent of population in North and Middle Andaman has been given first dose of vaccines. There are three centers in North and Middle Andaman where vaccines are being given to Islanders.
