Port Blair, Jun 03: The Baratang region of North and Middle Andaman District is facing fuel crises since past more than two weeks.
According to information received petty fuel outlets of Baratang region are closed since many days.
Public of the region are the worst sufferer, sadly even in case of urgent need or medical emergency, people working at remote pockets of the Island are unable to go to hospital due to non availability of fuels.
When Andaman Sheekha Daily contacted the Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman District Dr. Angel Bhati Chauhan, she said that at present there is no ANIDCO outlet or any private outlet in that area, though an ANIDCO outlet is under construction in that region.
The DC added that the small vendors of Baratang region who sell fuel have not yet paid Value Added Tax (VAT).
“There is no shortage of fuel in the District; we are closely monitoring each and every essential commodity that no shortage should arise. Apart from that so far as fuel is concerned there is no shortage of fuel, last year there were lots of complaints against LPG cylinders during the pandemic but this year there is no complaint at any part of the District,” the Deputy Commissioner clarified.
She added that at every place the vendors who have paid VAT and applied for renewal of license have been issued the license. “Only Baratang region’s licenses were not renewed because they haven’t paid VAT yet. The administration has also issued notice regarding this in the month of March itself,” she pointed out.
