Mayabunder, Jan 21: The COVID-19 vaccination drive for the Health Care Workers of remote North and Middle Andaman, in the first phase began today.
According to Health Department Sources, required numbers of vaccines have been already sent to North and Middle Andaman on Tuesday and from today vaccines were administered to Health Care Workers at Diglipur, Mayabunder and Rangat regions of North and Middle Andaman District.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman, Dr. Angel Bhati Chauhan informed media that the District of N &M Andaman has taken a giant leap today in the fight against COVID-19 by starting the first phase of vaccination in three centres viz Community Health Centre Diglipur, RP Hospital Mayabunder and Community Health Centre Rangat.
“Sufficient quantity of vaccines is available in all these three centres and in the first phase Heath Care Workers are being inoculated. There is high level of participation and acceptance for the vaccine in North and Middle Andaman,” the DC added.
Dr. Chauhan confirmed that no report of any adverse reaction, after taking vaccine has been reported from North and Middle Andaman.
Meanwhile, Andaman and Nicobar Islands received second consignment of COVID-19 vaccine yesterday, containing 6000 vaccines.
Earlier on 13, January 2021, Andaman and Nicobar Islands had received 6500 COVID-19 vaccines in first consignment.
With this, total 12500 vaccines will cover first and second doze of all health workers of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
