Port Blair, Jan 17: Along with entire nation, COVID-19 vaccination was launched in remote Andaman and Nicobar Islands too, yesterday morning. On the first day 226 people were inoculated with COVID-19 vaccine.
The launch function at Port Blair was attended by top officials of Andaman and Nicobar Administration and vaccination venues were connected online through video conferencing with programme of Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, in which he launched world’s largest COVID-19 vaccination program today.
Mr. Daulat Ram, a Health worker was the first person to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The vaccination drive in Andaman is being undertaken for the Health Care workers of South Andaman district in two places viz School of Nursing, GB pant Hospital, Port Blair and AYUSH Hospital, Port Blair.
Both vaccination sites were made live with the PMO and Ministry of Health, Government of India for two way communications.
The vaccination session was started at both places immediately after the inaugural speech of the Prime Minister. Every session is supported by five Vaccinators, supporting staffs and security.
Elaborate arrangement have been made to tackle any untoward incident following vaccination by deputing specialized doctors with advanced life support instruments at the session sites.
All the beneficiaries were informed through telephonic calls and the SMS for the vaccination through CoWIN Portal. Further, for the first time the eVIN portal is used for management of vaccination.
A total of 226 beneficiaries were vaccinated on the first day including 116 at School of Nursing and 110 beneficiaries at AYUSH hospital, Port Blair and the entire session went smoothly, without any complications.
The vaccination will be continued for next few days till completion of the first phase. The second dose will be administered after 28 days of giving the first dose.
