Port Blair, Dec 24: The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has minimized the number of STS buses to North and Middle Andaman to contain the spread of COVID19 Virus but it has been observed that reducing the number of STS buses have caused huge inconvenience to the residents of North and Middle Andaman region.
Although the decision taken from the side of Administration is acceptable, looking at the present pandemic situation but general public, who have to visit Port Blair to N & M Andaman and vise versa for urgent works, including medical needs, are facing a lot of difficulties.
General Public demands that atleast basic number of STS buses must be operated between Port Blair and N & N Andaman by following all safety norms of COVID-19, so that people who are in need don’t have to run from pillar to post.
Some private cab drivers have come as a great help in this time of pandemic by operating their vehicles to ferry public on share basis but not everyone is capable of paying such heavy fare for travelling from one Island to other, hence operation of STS bus is crucial.
Precaution against COVID-19 is top priority but there has to be some arrangements to provide sufficient number of buses for people of these Islands to travel from one place to another in case of urgency. Hope the Administration will talk to public leaders and prominent citizen in this regard and find out perfectly balanced strategy as far as issue of transportation is concerned.
