Port Blair, Dec 04: Child Welfare Committee in accordance with JJ Act under Social Welfare deals with children in need of care and protection. As part of its function the Child Welfare Committee, South Andaman has made a significant achievement by representing a minor girl back to Port Blair who had run away to Mumbai by train from Kolkata. She was noticed by a woman police Naik at the railway platform at Navi Mumbai. Who handed her over to the child line Mumbai.
The child line later handed her to CWC Navi Mumbai considering her as child in need of care and protection. The Child Welfare Committee South Andaman took initiative and pursued the matter related to the wellbeing and repatriations of the said girl child with its counterpart at Navi Mumbai which continued until her safe return. Due to Covid-19 pandemic the process of repatriation was delayed.
Ultimately the child was brought back to Port Blair on 21/11/2020 after a period more than 13 months escorted by the same woman police constable who found the girl child at the Navi Mumbai railway platform.
The girl was handed over to CWC (South) which handed the girl to her family. The CWC (South) has expressed its heartfelt gratitude to its Mumbai counterpart, Deputy Commissioner railway police, DCPO, NGOs and UNICEF for their great contribution in safe return of the minor girl back to Port Blair CWC (South) is thankful to District Administration (SA) and District Police SA for extending their support in entire process, a release from Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee, South Andaman said here today.
