Port Blair, November 11: Restoration of boat facilities for Shaheed and Swaraj Dweep, opening up Ross Island for tourism activities, and not conducting more than one test of tourists on arrival are some major steps taken by the Andaman Administration to buttress the tourism activities in these Islands and to support the tourism stakeholders.
As tourism remained closed in these Islands for nearly 08 months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, people associated with the tourism industry struggled heavily even to earn their livelihood.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha over phone today, the District Commissioner, South Andaman, Mr. Suneel Anchipakka said that to strengthen the tourism activities, the District Administration has decided not to conduct a test on tourists more than once after their arrival.
Anyone, who conducts his/her tests 48 hours before traveling to these Islands, there is no need to conduct test on them again at Port Blair, the DC said.
Further to strengthen the Tourism activities in these Islands, the District Commissioner said that they have also opened Ross Island for tourism activities and the tourist boats to the Island have started their operation since today.
“Within a week we are also going to open the North Bay Island, just because the Jetty is under some repair we couldn’t open the Island simultaneously,” said Mr. Anchipakka.
Apart from this, Mr. Anchipakka said that there are daily boats now for Shaheed and Swaraj Dweep, for the easy movement of tourists in these popular tourism spots.
The President, Andaman Association of Tour Operators, Mr. M Vinod has thanked the District Commissioner of SA for bringing up all such measures to boosting the tourism activities in these Islands and he also thanked him and the Forest Department for opening Jolly Buoy Island for tourism activities from tomorrow.
