Car Nicobar, Nov 04: People in Car Nicobar Islands are facing severe cash crunch since last several months. Andaman Sheekha reported about this issue twice in recent past but now it has been learnt that due to strict quarantined rules, ATM technicians are not ready to come to Car Nicobar to repair the SBI ATMs.
As per sources recently, a technician was sent to Car Nicobar to repair two ATMs but when they learnt that they will be quarantined for 14 days they did not even step down from ship and went back to Port Blair in same sailing.
This has left the residents of Car Nicobar in deep trouble as many are now facing severe cash crunch.
Altogether there are three ATMs are Car Nicobar out of which two are of State Bank of India and one is of ANSCB. While the ANSCB ATM is defunct since last several years the ATMs of SBI are not repaired due to such quarantine rules.
“Now to get cash I have to online transfer my money to my colleague’s bank account, who is carrying a cheque book so that he can stand in queues at SBI and withdraw my cash. Government servants like me, who did not carry cheque book are worst sufferer ,” said a government servant, who does not want his name to be quoted.
It is alleged that a few senior officers, when reach Car Nicobar do not go for 14 days quarantine. If this is true then why for essential services like banking such quarantine has been made mandatory, others ask.
