Port Blair, Oct 30: The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has already submitted a proposal to the government for providing a bigger helicopter, with 16 passenger capacity, for this UT, considering the challenges being faced people of these remote Islands.
At present 4 helicopters with 8 to 10 seating capacity are the lifelines of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, especially for remote Islands like Great Nicobar, Nancowry, Car Nicobar Hut Bay etc. But often due to limited seats and it becomes impossible to accommodate all passengers with urgent needs.
Considering this, the Administration has already submitted with proposal of 16 pax capacity helicopter for Andaman and according to sources there are good chances that this proposal will be accepted.
Insiders told Andaman Sheekha that the Administration is planning to acquire this bigger helicopter through Pawan Hans, and Pawan Hans will lease this helicopter from other agencies.
Presently due to COVID-19 restrictions many files are put on hold and many proposals are simply not entertained but many believed that if crucial proposals like this, is actively followed up by even political parties, with the senior ministers, things will move fast and Andaman might get such bigger helicopter soon.
