Rangat, July 06: A speeding Ertiga hit the rock yesterday near Morisdera, Rangat at 02:30 pm following which one youth sitting on the rear seat died.
Five youths were sitting inside the MPV and according to sources, they were coming back from partying at Morisdera beach.
The driver of the vehicle was reportedly under the heavy influence of alcohol and was driving the vehicle at a very high speed as a result of which he lost control over the vehicle and hit with a rock.
Due to a bad network, all the injured couldn’t inform about the accident to any emergency number and struggled at the accident spot for a long time, luckily, a police constable, who was heading towards Billyground after seeing all the five went to the Betapur check post and reported the matter to the concerned officials via wireless.
On information, an Ambulance reached the spot at 03:30 pm, nearly one hour after the accident took place.
As per the latest reports, one sitting on the back seat of the vehicle suffered severe injuries in his head and after reaching the hospital he succumbed to his injuries, one youth has been referred yesterday to Port Blair while the other three suffered minor injuries.
The vehicle is said to be hired by the Tehsildar Office, Rangat. A case has also been registered in the Rangat Police Station, it is learned.
