Kadamtala, June 17: As the world celebrated World Crocodile Day today, a report surfaced today which said that a Crocodile reportedly died in the private farm of Uttara village of Kadamtala, a few days back, entangled in net, laid by Forest Department of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
As per reports, after the Crocodile was sighted near the farm, the owner immediately reported the matter to the Wildlife Division of Forest Department, following which a team of Wildlife Department reached the spot and placed a net in the pond.
As it was late evening, no wildlife staffs waited to keep a watch in the pond because of which the 1.9 meter long Crocodile reportedly got trapped in the net and the next day morning, while checking, the trapped crocodile found died in the net.
Crocodile of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has been listed under schedule 1 and such incident is not only painful but also unacceptable.
Mr. Satya Prakash, IFS, DFO told Andaman Sheekha that on Monday morning a Mazdoor of th Department saw the Crocodile, entangle in net. Immediately the Mazdoor informed this matter to the team of Forest Department, which reached the spot and saw the Crocodile was not moving. The team immediately took the crocodile to veterinary Hospital of Kadamtala, where Doctor declared the Crocodile dead. For postmortem body was sent today.
