Diglipur, Sept 09: The Saturday morning was rather different for all the residents of Ward No. 2 of Subhash Gram Village, Diglipur as some villagers found a crocodile roaming freely in their fields. The news spread like wild fire and soon hundreds of people gathered near the nallah, from which the crocodile had emerged to enjoy his Saturday Morning Sun Basking session. There was panic among public as such incident could result in a deadly accident tomorrow, but sadly the forest officials were found totally helpless and clueless. Later a few labourers of Forest Department showed some courage and drove away the crocodile back into the nallah.
Villagers of Subhash Gram told Andaman Sheekha that nearly one month back another crocodile had come out of nearby nallah and was roaming freely in fields.
“We feel that our lives are not safe. The Forest Department must immediately remove these crocodiles from our village or tomorrow these crocodiles will surely kill some villagers,” said an angry resident of Subhash Gram.
The incident of Human and Wildlife conflict is on the rise and hence the Administration must take some preventive steps to save precious lives of Islanders. There is also a need to train all the Forest Officers to deal with situation like these or in future such intrusion of crocodiles may end death of villagers.
