STS passengers remain stranded for nearly five hours at ATR

Baratang, Aug 26: Passengers of Nimbudera Express today went through a terrible time at Middle Strait area of Andaman Trunk Road (ATR). According to information received here the Nimbudera Express of STS started from Port Blair at 9.45 am for Nimbudera but when the bus reached Middle Strait at around 2.00 pm, it broke down, putting passengers in soup.
Though it was assured that soon an alternate bus will be provided for the stranded passengers but to the dismay of everybody the STS department could not provide an alternate bus even after five long hours. Though the in-charge of STS’s Baratang unit was requested several times to provide an alternate bus but no alternate arrangements were made by him till 6.00 pm.
Finally 6.45 pm, an alternate Bus was provided for the stranded passengers, who were waiting at Baratang Jetty. But they were told that the Bus will go only upto the Uttara Jetty and from Kadamtala another bus will come for their rescue.
If this remains the preparedness of STS department then one can understand that what would be the fate of STS passengers if ATR buses of STS ever develop problems inside the Jarawa Reserve Forest, where passengers won’t even get water to drink.
