Port Blair, September 09: Around 20 commercial Vehicle Associations called a bandh today in relation to the conundrum they are facing in their day to day life like for getting permits, traffic chaos, bad roads etc.
Hundreds of people were seen protesting in the Tiranga Park, Mohanpura.
As per reports, altogether 20 demands were kept in front of the administration wherein they demanded a separate independent RTO office, increase in tariff for prepaid taxi and auto rickshaw.
The commercial vehicle associations also demanded the administration to construct safe roads as it remains fit for public services and all vehicles.
The association demanded construction of thoratang bridge immediately.
They also demanded the administration to construct Private bus stand like main government bus terminus. There were several other demands kept in front of the administration.
The Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Mr Kuldeep Rai Sharma as well as BJP party president, Mr Vishal Jolly also visited the protestors for extending their support to them.
Due to the bandh Citizens of the Port Blair city had to face a lot of trouble. Many remained on a leave and some had to postpone their trip to North and Middle Andaman.
According to sources, members of all the association’s were called by the Sub Divisional Magistrate at around 09:00 pm.
“If we are not getting any proper assurance from the administration we will continue our protest even tomorrow,” said a protestor.
