Port Blair, Aug 13: Inundated by liquor supplied by Government, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are facing serious threat from illegal Ganja sale too.
It’s an open secret that drug peddlers have set up a very prominent network in these Islands for smuggle Ganja in these Islands. Earlier, Ganja used to reach Port Blair via ships, when CID team broke the nexus, some people started dropping the Ganja consignments (packed in polythene) into the sea from ship, near Ross Island instead of bringing it via Haddo Port. Those packed used to be later picked up by some dinghy operators. When local media reported about this, the drug peddlers started sending Ganja via courier, packed inside the packet of tea. However, this network was also busted by A & N police.
On 10th August 2012, Rangat Police have again seized 1.5 kg of illicit ganja from Chitrakut of Nimbutala, which shows that the drug peddlers must have set up a new network to bring Ganja in these Islands, which need to be investigated by A & N Police.
This is also an open secret that a lot of backpackers come to Andaman, just to spend time in lonely places and enjoy Ganja. In places like Havelock, Ganja is available all the time. If visiting tourists can get Ganja all the time, why can intelligence unit of A & N Police.
This is high time for A & N Administration to form an undercover team to study the network of the drug peddlers and bust the same, or soon every youngster of these Islands will get addicted to Ganja.
