Nabagram, Dec 14: The Kalpong Hydro Electricity Power Project (KHEP) at Nabagram village, Diglipur is the lone green power project since Nov 2001, is now feeding power upto Tugapur Via Mayabunder from last three months. The 138 metre high dam is currently overflowing since last few days.
Executive Engineeer Mr. A Hamza said that Since May-June the department is producing about 4.4MW power and feeding upto Tugapur including all Diglipur, when demand and supply are available. Since May Presently all the 3 turbines are operating and producing power as there is surplus water in catchment area due to rains. Thus there is no load shedding implementing in this region apart from technical line faults or transmitting faults.
In the month of Oct alone about 1.89 Million Units of power was produced which saved 5,48,000 Litres diesel amounting about 3.07 Crores to the Islands. With no leakage of water, the Hydro Electric Power Project at Kalpong in currently offering 95.4% efficiency, the EE informed.
The green power will be available upto February only as after summer season starts and the water lever goes down. Then the diesel power needs to be fed from Rangat Power house. The decades old Sitanagar power house should be revamped, as the defence establishments’ and Shibpur Airport’s needs are increasing fast, the EE said.
