Port Blair, Sept 19: A few congress leaders along with party workers today staged Chakka Jam at Hut Bay bazaar area.
According to reports the Congress leaders were fuming over removal of code of conduct before conduct of elections for Netaji Nagar and Hut Bay Panchayat and also not intimating the same to them.
Sources told Andaman Sheekha that Elections for these two panchayats are scheduled to be held on 14 October 2018, for which code of conduct came into effect in these two regions since 14 September 2018. Now for some reasons yesterday an order was received by Tehsilder that the Code of Conduct has been withdrawn with immediate affect till further orders.
The date for filling nomination was 14 September to 19 September 2018.
Unaware of this new direction Congress Candidates today came for filling nomination but could not do so as the Code of Conduct was been withdrawn. At the same time as Code of Conduct was withdrawn the old Panchayat set up became active and automatically got power to carryout any pending business like issuing work order.
Angry over this sudden move some congress leaders today staged protest and demanded to code of conduct again for these two panchayat and staged Chakka Jam at Hut Bay Bazaar.
On getting information, The SHO of Little Andaman, Sub Inspector M Saravanan reached the spot and talked the situation and brought the protesting leaders to Tehsilder Officer where after discussion the protest was withdrawn.
