Diglipur, Sep 18: The PRI members of Diglipur area have demanded boost in FM and AIR Port Blair signals. In a letter addressed to Central Information and Broadcasting Minister Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore the PRI members mentioned that Diglipur is the Second largest Island in terms of population in Andaman & Nicobar Islands. In spite of this due to remoteness Diglipur lacks entertainment avenues in many aspects. Even Port Blair All India Radio’s signals are available only in and around at capital Port Blair only.
The letter added that radio services are very much required since most of the islanders reside in remote villages. “If FM transmitters are installed then the people including students and tourists can be benefitted, border areas will be strengthened, and moreover radio is the best connectivity device during any natural calamity,” the letter added.
The letter also added that a major part of Andaman is unable to listen to “Mann Ki Baat” programme in which the Prime Minister addresses public.
The PRI members further requested the minister to take up the issue of boosting Radio signal so that AIR Port Blair and FM stations can be heard in Diglipur region also, which is a long pending demand of the general public of this region.
