Port Blair, July 13: It seems that it will take atleast two more months for the Surya Charka Power Corporation Limited (SPCL) to repair both of its DG set, which broke down recently, resulting in power outage in South Andaman region.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha Mr. Biji George, Deputy General Manager, SPCL today said that the SPCL has received 9.5 crores rupees from the Administration, and the repair work for one of the engine is in progress and the engine will be repaired by the end of this month.
“But the second engine will take another one month to get repaired as all equipments have to be brought from Germany,” he added.
Here Administration’s experiment with New Bharat and other Independent Power Producer has gone wrong and hence there is no hope of having any back up power supply. The dreams of containerized DG sets have also shattered, leaving Islanders in darkness.
It seems that this is time for Islanders to either plan for setting up their own backup power unit or to learnt to live with the curse of load shedding.
