Port Blair, Aug 05: The Commanding Officer, Coast Guard (HQ) 09 Commandant Samir Chandra Patanaik who was earlier posted at Diglipur Coast Guard (HQ) at Diglipur died of Heart attack at Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh yesterday evening 530 pm.
He was very popular among the local and staff of Coast Guard and Administration during his tenure at Diglipur 2016-18.
He encouraged locals and fishermen to participate in many swatch Bharat Abhiyan, ‘Swachh Sagar Abhiyan’ campaigns, beach cleaning programmes and given special lectures in schools and village about sanitation.
After his tenure he was posted at a ship ‘Samudra Pahredar’ at Vishakhapatnam. He was presently at Kakinada Port at Andhra Pradesh for refit of the same ship.
In the evening he collapsed on the ship and declared brought dead at Hospital. His body was sent to his native place at Cuttack today. He is survived by his wife and two children. He served 23 years in Indian Coast Guard.
