Port Blair, June 28: In a very positive development, after nearly 14 years big vessel of A&N Adminstration MV Swaraj Dweep today berthed along side the small harbor of Kamorta Island, under the command of Cpt. Abdul Salam and Pilot. Mr. Mahmood (PMB) as advised by CPA.
While no one clearly knows when was the last time that any big vessel had berthed in the harbor, people of Nancowry say that after 2004 tsunami, it was MV Swaraj Dweep, which had berthed at Kamorta Island and after that no other vessel could ever berth at the harbor.
Such berthing has brought big relief to the passenger disembarking & cargo off loading process. This has also reduced the delay process of anchoring outside Nancowry Island and with the Panton towing by small boat, which is unsafe for passengers & Cargo too.
Sources in Kamorta confirmed that the entire process of passenger disembarking & cargo off loading was completed within one hour today, while in other case the entire process of dropping passengers in Panton usually takes more than three hours.
Meanwhile, Mr. Rashid Yusuf, the spokesperson of Tribal Council of Nancowry has expressed happiness on this news and expressed gratitude towards Shipping Department, Captain and all crew members of the MV Swaraj Dweep Ship and the entire Administration for this achievement. He hoped that in future other vessel also come and berth alongside the harbor, which will be a great relief for the passengers and public of Nancowry Group of Islands.
