Port Blair, May 03: Raising a very crucial issue, the lone Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has written a letter to the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands demanding restriction on tenure of all government servants in Nicobar Group of Islands to only one year.
At present, making mockery of Administration’s transfer policy, different departments have fixed different duration of tenure for government servants in Nicobar Group of Islands, which are far away from Port Blair.
In his letter the MP said that it is a well known fact that Nicobar District is considered to be a hardest area in compared to areas of North and Middle Andaman. The government servants posted at Nicobar District are facing various problems of basic needs besides lack of accommodation, transportation and communication.
At present 99 percent government servant want such modification in Transfer policy as in case of reduction of tenure to one year no Government servant will fear to serve Nicobar District and will happy accept one year transfer to Nicobar District, knowing fully well that he will be back next year.
As 2019 Lok Sabha Elections are nearing, the Member of Parliament knows well that if this demand is fulfilled he will automatically win hearts of all Government Servants, for whom, long posting in Nicobar District is the biggest nightmare. Infact one such move can confirm his 2019-2024 MP seat from A & N Islands, from now.
The Andaman and Nicobar Administration had allowed one year posting for Nicobar District after tsunami and hence most of the government servants accepted the transfer happily and after tsunami, rehabilitation works achieved good speed. Sadly although after 14 years of tsunami though situation in Nicobar District has not improved much, the tenure of Government servants has been increased by many Departments, which is largely considered as unjustified.
