Port Blair, June 27: Andaman and Nicobar Police have arrested two persons in APWD Cement smuggling case of Billyground. According to reports available here till now the police department has arrested Mr. Gafoor, the JE of Basantipur and Mr. Sanjit Kumar Biswas, a contractor of Billyground region. Sources have confirmed that there are possibilities that soon the Police Department may also arrest the Assistant Engineer of the Area in this case.
On 02.06.2012 information was received from a source that stolen cement has been kept in the godown of one Sanjit Kumar Biswas, R/o Pinaki Nagar. On receipt of this information SI Pritam Behari SHO, PS Billiground alongwith his staff conducted a raid in the godown of Sanjit Kumar Biswas and recovered 290 bags of cement.
On enquiry, it is gathered that the cement bags were kept in the godown of Sanjit Kumar Biswas without any valid documents as he failed to produce any valid documents or bills of the above cement bags on the spot.
The cement bags were seized U/s 102 Cr.PC, being suspected to be a stolen property from the possession of Sanjit Kumar Biswas in the presence of independent witnesses. During the course of further enquires the APWD has claimed that 150 of these bags of cement have been issued for renovation of VSD building and toilet at Betapur, on 02.06.2012 through proper documents. While transporting the cement bags to Betapur, some technical problem developed in the truck and due to unfavorable weather the cement bags were unloaded in the godown of Sanjit Kumar Biswas for safety.
According to the SP of North and Middle Andaman, during the course of enquiry Mr. Sanjit Kumar Biswas produced an invoice obtained from Fairmacs Trading Company Pvt. Ltd. Port Blair, but he has not received cement bags issued on the invoice.
“The APWD authority also produced some manipulated documents to the Police. On scrutiny of all the documents produced by Sanjit Kumar Biswas, M. Gafoor, JE APWD and SSN Mohd. Ibrahim, AE, APWD, Swadesh Nagar, the cement bags issued for the construction work of APWD were dishonestly transported upto the godown of Mr. Sanjit Kumar Biswas, R/o Pinaki Nagar. On getting sufficient evidence U/s 468/471/420/411/34 IPC a case vide crime No. 37/12 dated 25/06/2012 has been registered at PS Billiground. Accused Sanjit Kumar Biswas and M. Gafoor, JE APWD have been arrested and produced before the Hon’ble court of Judicial Magistrate at Mayabunder on 27/06/2012 from where they were remanded to judicial custody. Investigation of the case is in progress and search of other accused is on,” the SP added.
