Port Blair, Sep 25: The Madras Institute of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (M.I.O.T), Chennai held a Free Cardiac Screening and Consultation camp on Sunday, 24 September 2017 at Atul Smriti Samiti, Bengali Club, Port Blair. A total of 173 patients were screened during the camp.
In the inaugural function the Member of Parliament, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr Bishnu Pada Ray inaugurated the camp as the chief guest in the presence of Dr.Vijit K Cherian, Director-Adult Cardiothoracic Surgery, MIOT Hospitals, Mr. TP Mondal, Chairperson, Atul Smriti Samiti, Mr Tapan Kumar Das, Secretary, Atul Smriti Samiti and Mr K Ganeshan, Councillor of Ward no. 8 and apart from these Mr. Binoy John, Director, Pramukh and Dr Binoy John, senior cardiologist of Advance Heart Disease and Cardiac Transplant medicine of Cardiology and International cardiology department alongwith the Director of Critical Care, MIOT International, Mr. Nitish T.P were present.
The team of specialists inferred high incidence of diabetes, diagnosed many above 45 years with typical symptoms of chest pain suggestive of heart disease not evaluated so far and recommended basic cardiac tests besides finding middle aged patients requiring angiograms have not taken up the doctors’ adviced seriously as they are reluctant to proceed further for advanced diagnosis.
Mr. Binoy John said a team of Super Specialists including the cardiothoracic surgeons and interventional cardiologists along with the team of nurses and paramedics with the necessary equipment will provide various services like measurement of height, weight, BMI, blood pressure, random sugar levels, ECG and doctor consultation besides 2D-Echo services for patients who need further evaluation during the camp.
Appreciating the services provided by MIOT Hospitals, which is also empanelled in ANISHI scheme, Mr K Ganeshan said that MIOT is one of the most advanced hospitals in the country saved many lives since empanelment with the Directorate of Health Services.
He also urged the Member of Parliament to work out a solution for stretcher patients who have to pay Rs 130000 to air travel after being referred to hospitals in mainland. Mr Prakesh Nair, vice-president MIOT proposed the vote of thanks.
