Poor parents cry for financial help to save their infant baby

Port Blair, June 22: It was almost a crash landing for 44 days old infant ‘Wingslee Joseph’. His entry in this world was horribly rough, as soon after his birth doctors discovered that Wingslee has major defects in vital organs, like a hole in his heart and displaced lungs.
Because of these deformities the condition of Wingslee is never stable. The child was in ICU for nearly nine days after his birth and even now the child is under medical care. The situation of the new born baby was so bad that the Doctors had to give him two bottles of blood.
On 25 May doctors confirmed Mr. Haridas and Mrs. Arockya Juliet, the father and mother of Wingslee about the seriousness of case and were asked to consult super specialists of AIMS who were on a visit to these Islands.
After consultancy, Super Specialists of AIMS on 18 June 2012, told the worried parents that the child requires urgent operation in Mainland India. They were advised to take the child to mainland for treatment immediately.
“The Doctor told us that in Amrita Institute of Medical Science (AIMS) the operation will cost nearly Rs. 2 lakhs. I am Pastor and earn hardly Rs. 4,000 a month. For me arranging this amount looks impossible. Lt. Governor is our only hope. We don’t know how to approach the Lt. Governor and request for release of some amount for my Son’s treatment,” said Mr. Haridas with tears in his eyes.
Worried parents now pray to God, day and night for the safety of their only child.
“A few believers have collected Rs. 13,000 for the flight tickets. This is all we have now. I am planning to leave for Mainland soon for the treatment of my child but don’t know how shall we arrange the amount,” he added.
There are hundreds of examples where people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands have come forward to help needy patients, so did the Administration and the Lt. Governor. Hope the child gets enough support from public, Raj Niwas and Administration for this treatment so that someday in distant future he could smile and proudly say that “I belong to A & N Islands.”
