Mayabunder, June 16: The existing sale depots of Mayabunder have totally failed to provide Minor Forest Products to the villagers, it is alleged.
“It’s the job of the forest department to cut and supply the POSTS and JUNGLEE BALLIES to the villagers as they charge money for those. A POST cost Rs 65/- and a single JUNGLEE BALLI costs around Rs 25/-, but instead of supplying of their own they show the villagers a piece of land and ask them to cut MPFs by their own. In that case what is the need of having Sale Depots of Forest Department,” a villager of Mayabuder complained.
“We are supposed to travel 8 long kilometres to get POSTS and JUNGLEE BALLIES, it costs more and we are poor and are not capable of spending so much money only in travelling,” he added.
When we have to cut and take the POSTS and BALLIES of our own then what for the forest department is charging money from us.
This is high time for the Forest Department to wake up and provide some relief to these poor villagers by supplying processed MFPs through the Sale Depots.
