Suspected Government Cement smuggling racket in Middle Andaman
N & M Correspondent
Billyground, June 03: The Andaman and Nicobar Police on Saturday seized 290 bags of smuggled cement from a rented room of Pinakinagar village. The room, situated on the ground floor of Pinakinagar Youth Club, is owned by Mr. Sanjib Kumar Biswas, a resident of Pinaki Nagar, who during inquiry failed to produce any documents against those cement bags. Mr. Biswas is a close relative of Harinagar Panchayat Pradhan, Mr. Hirenmoy Roy, who is presently admitted in Billyground hospital.
Andaman Sheekha correspondent present during the seizure found that every cement bag had a marking of “ONLY FOR GOVT.SUPPLY NOT FOR SALE”. This kind of marking is usually found on cement bags issued by Andaman PWD.
According to reports, it is believed that these cement bags were illegally sold to private contractors from some APWD site, for obvious reasons. However, Andaman and Nicobar Police is conducting a detailed inquiry in this regard.
It is believed that if the inquiry is carried out in proper manner, couple of high profile names will surely come out in this cement smuggling racket.
The said raid was conducted by a police team of Billyground Police Station comprising of SHO Pritam Bihari, ASI Deben Kumar Roy, Police Constable N.C.Das and Constable Sudharsan. A case has been registered under 102 CRPC Act for stealing of Govt. Property.
