Diglipur, Aug 09: The students of Government Senior Secondary School Diglipur today organised Chakka Jam on the ATR stretch near Dolphin Chowk of Diglipur since 9AM. They also closed the road leading GSSS Diglipur and bazar.
The protest was against arrest of the Physical Education teacher Mr. Kumud Mondal on the charges of Sexual abuse of a class XII student.
A case was registered against the said teacher on 7 Aug after the girl lodged a complaint in the Diglipur Police Station against the teacher and the police arrested him on 8 August and he was produced before the Special Court today.
The students were demanding the reinstating the teacher back and withdrawn of case against teacher.
Meanwhile the DEO asked the teachers to request the students to withdraw the strike. Parents who reached the spot were fuming because of the protest of students and the teachers, who allowed the strike.
Parent alleged that teachers including the Vice Principal of the school were behind this strike and the responsible government servant must be identified and punished.
Some of the students speaking to Andaman Sheekha admitted that the teacher were in support of the strike and asked them to go on strike.
The Asst Commissioner, Police Officers PRI members seen trying their best to explain the students about the law and its course of its action. They were successful at 11.30 am and after assurance of AC all the students went back to the school.
The Asst Commissioner addressed the students there and said that the matter is already in court and he initiated an enquiry in this matter by forming a committee and if the students having any evidence can provide to the committee. He also assured that another physical education teacher of Bengali medium will attend the classes from tomorrow.
The Chairperson, UT Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Mrs. Kiran Tigga, visited GSSS Diglipur today and conducted an inquiry and counseling to the students after that she met Asst Commissioner, DEO and other teachers.
