Port Blair, July 29: Setting a shining example, the family of 54-year-old Head Constable of the Andaman and Nicobar Police donated his organs after he was declared brain dead at Apollo Hospitals.
The Head Constable, Rathan Kumar, had a nasty fall in his residence in which he sustained serious head injuries. He was initially admitted in the GB Pant Hospital where doctors diagnosed him with brain injury. He was immediately referred to Apollo Hospitals, Chennai on July 16.
On July 26, doctors declared him brain dead at Chennai. Subsequently, his family members accorded consent to donate his organs. His liver and a kidney were transplanted to waitlisted patients at Apollo while another kidney was sent to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. The heart was send to Fortis Malar Hospital.
