Port Blair, April 13: As per the programme chalked out by Govt. of India to organize “Swachhta Pakhwada” under Swachh Bharat Mission during 1/04/2016 to 31/03/2017 the Port Blair Municipal Council initiated Cleanliness drive involving Segregation & Collection of Solid wastes and wet wastes in slum clusters of Ward No. 2. The entire ward has been divided into 27 routes for collection of Segregated wastes from door step. Earlier the Sanitary Staff were imparted with necessary training by Mr Vijay Kumar, Senior Sanitary Inspector to handle wastes. Further Mobile announcements through auto rickshaw with the objective of getting open defecation free was made to educate & motivate residents of the ward for construction of toilet & keeping segregated wastes at door step to be educated by Port Blair Municipal Council sanitary staff .
Besides, a mass awareness programme was conducted involving the community on Tuesday in the presence of Mr R. Someshwar Rao, Councillor, Ward No. 2. The theme of the mass awareness was “Becoming Open Defecation Free”. The mass awareness programme was organized by Swachhta Awareness Team of Port Blair Municipal Council headed by Mr Vijay Kumar, Senior Sanitary Inspector. Mass awareness on the theme will also be conducted at 6 pm on Ambedkar Jayanti at Sanitary Site Office, Lal Bijan, Dairyfarm in Ward No.9 covering slum population of the area.
