Port Blair, Apr 26: The Anti-Corruption unit of Andaman and Nicobar Administration has caught an Executive Engineer of Andaman Public Works Department (APWD) red handed while he was accepting bribe money. The Executive Engineer was produced to the court today.
“On receipt of a written complaint against Mr. Jose Mone, Executive Engineer, Construction Division No.1, APWD, Port Blair regarding demand of bribe of Rs. 25000/- for execution of official work, a case was registered under POC ACT in the Anti Corruption Unit on 25.4.2012,” the Superintendent of Police, Anti Corruption unit of A & N Administration, informed in a press release.
The complainant requested him to pay Rs.15000/- as a 1st instalment and had assured him that balance amount of Rs.10000/- will be paid after getting his cheque from the Department.
“On this information, a raiding party was organized and a trap was laid. The Trap team headed by Inspector VHF Augustine comprises ASI Viswanand, PC Sanjeev Kumar and PC SS Singh along with two independent witnesses laid a trap of alleged accused on 25.4.2012. Shri A. Jose Mone, Executive Engineer, Construction Division No.1, APWD, Port Blair was caught red handed with tainted money of Rs.15000/- in front of the two independent witnesses in his office chamber,” the SP added.
After completion of all formalities, the accused Shri A. Jose Mone S/o, late K.M Abraham, aged 50 years was arrested and brought to PS, Anti Corruption Unit and produced in the Court where he was remanded to Judicial Custody for 14 days.
“All the general public is requested to intimate such type of information to the Superintendent of Police, Anti Corruption Unit through his Mobile No.9434289897/240840 or the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Anti-Corruption Unit through Mobile No. 9474256435/232249. The name of the informer will be kept secret,” the release said.
